A further tripling is forecast until 2020 and the further development is coupled with the question at what prices solar photovoltaic electricity can be delivered to the customers.

Depending on the adjustment of the sampling interval of the data acquisition system, changes in the fill factor of the measured I-V characteristics may occur when devices with high capacitance, such as BSF-cells, are measured. The paper describes the measurement and analysis procedure and possible solutions

Since the collaboration formally started in 2008, many projects have been undertaken and concluded, often with remarkable results. However, many of the people involved have not been made aware of these results, and neither has a wider audience. This report is intended to fill that gap and to illustrate the richness of results that such a collaboration can achieve. The report is also proof of a concept: how to generate added value and tangible synergies when parts of two very large research organisations embark on a formal collaboration. The editors hope it will serve a number of purposes. First, to provide a comprehensive overview and stock-taking of the projects and results achieved. Second, and probably more important, to encourage all staff of both organisations to undertake further interesting pro...

At these levels in sunny regions a PV module offers the cheapest possibility of all to generate DC electricity. For full systems, a simple LCOE analysis has been applied to illustrate the competiveness of PV electricity compared to household electricity in many EU countries. The goal of 20% renewable energy in Europe by 2020 can probably be achieved at lower costs and higher PV share than anticipated in 2010. For households these developments, together with the advent of affordable battery storage, opens a range of possibilities for exploiting PV in an economically feasible way.

The results show that all 420 modules in the system are still operating. Detailed measurements of part of the system indicate that the nominal peak power remains at the design value of 21 kW (stabilized, after light soaking). The conversion efficiency of the a-Si modules have now stabilized at a value of around 3.2%, with some seasonal variation. Inverter efficiency is around 90%, the same as at the start of operations

In this method, the short circuit current of the solar cell is recorded as it tracks the sun's position. This current, corrected for temperature and total irradiance deviation, is then plotted against pressure-corrected geometric air mass (AM). The calibration value (CV) at standard test conditions (25 °C, 1000 W m−2 total irradiance with AM 1.5 spectral distribution) is extracted by a straight line fit to the data. The global sunlight method is less complex than other methods as it avoids (in particular conditions) the need for spectral irradiance measurements and corresponding relative spectral response determination. It has an estimated expanded uncertainty of 1% and agrees to better than 0.5% with the CVs of the World Photovoltaic Scale.
