This is important to avoid treating the symptoms instead of the actual disease. A research problem could be identified through professional or/and academic efforts. This poses a lot of problems to students, both at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as this determines the title of their articles or research works. Many of them have to submit many topics to their supervisors before one could be reframed and approved. At times, students appealed to their supervisors to provide them with researchable topics. This to the supervisor(s) almost writing the dissertations/theses for them. The argument of this paper is to let students understand “problem identification” using an analogy from the Holy Bible. The study employed a conversation analysis methodology, which is empirically grounded, exploratory in-process and inferential. This involves using every conversation between two or more parties to...

This regional development project which otherwise should facilitate the transformation of Oke Ogun region is not fully in operation. Therefore, this paper aimed at assessing the potentials of Ikere Gorge Dam in transforming Oke Ogun Region. In achieving this aim, secondary data were sourced from literature, government gazettes and statistical records. These helped in knowing the gap to be filled by this paper. The primary data were collected through reconnaissance survey and the administration of 250 questionnaires which cover 50 % of household population in the selected settlements. The methods of sampling were cluster and systematic samplings. Analysis and synthesis of data were carried out using descriptive and pictoral methods. The outcome of the various findings shows that crude method of fishing is being employed which affects production. Irrigation farming is largely inadequat...

As important as it is, farmers in the Oke-Ogun region of Oyo state had experienced series of nomadic herders' attacks. This serves as a threat to food security in the region that is known to be the "food basket" of the state. In preventing and managing the conflicts between the nomadic herders and farmers, it is imperative to examine: The source of food in the region; level/nature of attacks; steps taken to prevent or/and control the conflicts; and effect of nomadic herders' attack on farmers and food security. This study adopted the frustration-aggression theory to explain the cause of conflicts between the two parties. Primary and secondary data were adopted; primary data were sourced through the use of questionnaire, oral interview and observation; secondary data were sourced from journals, textbooks, newspapers and online organizational publications; and the sampling technique adopted was multi-staged random sampling. Findings revealed that most (75.43%) of the food in this region was self-produced; access/size to farmland determines the volume food production; and large number of farmers (78.0%) can no longer farm away from the main towns and backyard of their villages because of the fear of being attacked. The chapter was concluded by recommending that animal tracks should be included in the rural land uses; zoning of the different rural land uses; advocacy planning is also recommended; and barriers such as fencing with bamboo/other trees or digging of ditches round the farms should be encouraged.

This paper aims at assessing the activities of International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)-Community Based Agriculture and Rural Development Programme (CBARDP) towards poverty alleviation in Kebbi state. The set objectives, among others include identifying the efforts of IFAD-CBARDP in improving the economic status of the beneciaries and to identify the link exists between poverty alleviation and IFAD-CBARDP activities. Data were sourced majorly through the secondary sources, most especially from the IFAD-CBARDP documented success story in Kebbi State, Volume 2, 2012. Findings from the document revealed that little amount of money was given to the beneciaries ranging between N3, 000 and N100, 000; more men benetted than women in this phase and little was done in the provision of rural water, electricity and combating climate change. It was concluded by recommending that the scope of IFAD-CBARDP activities should be widened and the amount being voted for the project reviewed considering the economic situation of the country. In addition, it was suggested that there should be gender equality in the selection of the beneciaries and some improvements in the areas of provision of rural water, electricity and combating climate change as these could also affect rural economy. In doing this, the scarce fund is spent on the actual and genuine infrastructural needs of the populace rather than those at the helm of affairs "imposing" infrastructure on the populace. This study investigates how much people know those at the helm of affairs which invariably indicates how much they are being contacted or consulted to know their needs and how to meet the needs. 250 respondents were sampled from the six selected wards in Ibadan South East Local Government in Oyo state to make a representation. Findings revealed that the populace does not really know the people at the helm of affairs even the Local Government Councilors that are supposed to be the closest representative of the government to them and work with them. This implied that the developmental projects in such communities are imposed on the populace. Suggestions were made on ways of improving the situation, these include, the elected officers should plan with the people and stop planning for them in order to achieve sustainability of the developmental projects in the communities in Ibadan generally and Nigeria at large and there should be social justice in every formulated policy.

This work then aims at appraising the efficiency of rainwater harvesting methods towards solving water shortage problem during the dry seasons in Kajola Local Government Area (LGA) of Oyo state. In achieving this, the concepts of rainwater harvesting and its harvest technologies were reviewed, the existing water sources were examined, methods of rainwater harvesting in the Local Government Area were assessed, and recommendations were made. Three hundred respondents selected through clustered random sampling technique were interviewed using questionnaires. The data collected from the field were subjected to simple analytical methods. Findings revealed that local methods were used to harvest rainwater. These local methods include the use of small containers and pots. Recommendations made include, adoption of underground tanks method of harvesting, provision of well powered centers for the collection by government, storage and distribution of rainwater and the need to encourage surface catchment system.
