On one hand, there is the necessity to satisfy the growing food demand, and on the other hand, to contribute to growth process sustainability and to increase the competence level of competence in environmental performance in agriculture. In addition, there are two relatively complex factors such as price volatility and the growing interest in the safety and nutritional aspects of agro-food products. In both developed and least developed countries a converging objective is promoting public goods through agricultural potential preservation. Moreover agricultural policy has the ethical commitment to ensure the world population access to food through the use of sustainable production processes and technologies and furthermore to improve quality and nutritional properties of food at a global level. Which falls on our plates is indeed thought through agricultural and food policies that are revisited in the chapter, both within Europe where the PAC is a political novel in the Mediterranean countries. Must admit that there is a rise in these areas of concern for the quality after research support to the quantities has long been almost exclusively. But at the moment is not yet able to consider the Mediterranean as a block in terms of these policies even if convergence is to be noted

Therefore, many companies have changed their way of working to meet consumers' new expectations in terms of food impacts on the environment and society. In food market, consumers are considered as principal stakeholders and therefore the most important actors for the transition towards a more sustainable production. Moreover the issue of the sustainability of products and its eco-labeling has been raised in order to allow consumers to choose "sustainable" products. We propose in this article to evaluate the consumer behavior toward sustainable food products information. Sustainability is reflected in its environmental and social dimensions. An experiment results show that the information on sustainability brings additional value to the product. Social sustainability is becoming increasingly more important for consumers compared to environmental impacts. Results lead to recommendations about the way it will be suitable to display the product sustainability information.

Purchase from Africans for Africa (PAA Africa) is a programme inspired by the lessons learned from Brazil’s Zero Hunger initiative, combining school feeding activities with institutional procurement from farmers’ organizations (FOs). It is currently being implemented in five African countries: Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique, Niger and Senegal. In Senegal, the programme has been implemented in the Kédougou region since 2012. After a one-year pilot phase, the second phase, or consolidation phase, started in September 2013 and ended in July 2016. 2. On the one hand, this report seeks to report on business activities and to account for the outcomes achieved by the PAA Africa Senegal project. Second, it seeks to understand why some results have occurred and others have not. In addition, it draws information for the project extension phase which is supposed to begin in 2017, particularly with respect to coordination of the partnership and operational and strategic decision-making processes. 3. Numerous users are expected to make use of this evaluation report. The PAA Africa/World Food programme (WFP) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Coordination Units and their partners are the first recipients. The report will help to identify changes to the design and implementation of the programme and raise key issues to discuss with the Government of Senegal to enhance the relevance and effectiveness of the PAA Africa Senegal project’s extension phase. The Government of Senegal will be able to draw on valuable information collated during the Consolidation phase, both to complete the project extension phase successfully and to develop its autonomous national school feeding programme.

The social revolts that erupted in countries in the south of the Mediterranean led to political instability. Soaring prices were considered to be one of the causes of the so-called " Arab Spring ". Food security issues are extremely important in Mediterranean countries (MCs), which are facing complex economic and political changes (CIHEAM, 2012). Assessing food security conditions is a challenging task because of the multidimensional nature and complexity of the issues involved (Maxwell, 1996). The concept of vulnerability, which has been developed in the scientific literature along with food security, is explained in this paper. The research objective is to analyse the different dimensions of food security and highlight the economic issues that determine food security conditions in Mediterranean countries. Subsequently, the aim is to identify appropriate theoretical concepts and methodological tools that can be used to assess food security in a given country (or region), with particular emphasis on the economic dimension.

On the one hand, the growing demand for foodneeds to be satisfied, and on the other, it is necessary to contribute to the growth processand sustainability and to increase the level of competence in environmental performancein agriculture. Moreover, agricultural policy has theethical commitment to ensurethe world population accessto foodthrough sustainableproduction processes and technologies and furthermore to improve the quality andnutritional properties of food at the global level.Agricultural policies are often designed to try to prevent market failure through correctivemechanisms and measures to contain the effects of low equilibrium in pricing orasymmetric information that are generated by the inefficient allocation of resourcesand unequal distribution of income along the food chain. Between 2006 and 2008 theprice of various commodities started to rise considerably – up to 180% in some cases, such as cereals – while in 2009 dairy product prices fell by 40%.Price variability hasnegative effects on producers and does not benefit consumers, who therefore loseconfidence in suppliers; they also have difficulty in understanding the level of productquality and food safety defined by the market.Diet and health are also subject to market failures. Farmers and food firms seek tomaximise profits, and this can have negative effects on consumers, who are suppliedwith food that is not wholesome. As a result, citizens have to contend with additionalcosts for health care and the burden on the national health service is increased. Many countries facing this situation have started to implement measures, which arealso linked to rural development policies, to persuade individuals to adopt a healthy lifestyle and to encourage firms to offer healthy food at a reasonable price. The aim isto help the public understand the benefits that can be obtained from a healthy diet andhigh-quality food. A further challenge is to find agricultural solutions for producinglocal, seasonal, and traditional food, which can have a positive impact on health andpromote a correct model of food consumption. This chapter will outline changes in European and Mediterraneanagricultural policy measures aiming to adapt foodsystems to new challenges. It will focus in particular onquality policy and the nutritional aspects of agro-food products to which variouscountries are having to devote attention in the new scenarios emerging at both the localand the international level.

The aim of this paper is to highlight the main economic issues affecting food security in a selection of Southern Mediterranean Countries (Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia), in order to improve policy guidance. Based on an extensive literature review conducted, a reduced set of core indicators was selected and calculated, so as to provide empirical evidence of their food security and vulnerability structural conditions, as well as of their development over a twenty-year time span.
