In this paper we introduce an effective ECG compression algorithm based on two dimensional multi-wavelet transform. Multi-wavelets offer simultaneous orthogonality, symmetry and short support, which is not possible with scalar two-channel wavelet systems. These features are known to be important in signal processing. Thus multiwavelet offers the possibility of superior performance for image processing applications. The SPIHT algorithm has achieved notable success in still image coding. We suggested applying SPIHT algorithm to 2-D multi-wavelet transform of 2-D arranged ECG signals. Experiments on selected records of ECG from MIT-BIH arrhythmia database revealed that the proposed algorithm is significantly more efficient in comparison with previously proposed ECG compression schemes.

Assessment of cardiac right-ventricle functions plays an essential role in diagnosis of arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia (ARVD). Among clinical tests, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is now becoming the most valid imaging technique to diagnose ARVD. Fatty infiltration of the right ventricular free wall can be visible on cardiac MRI. Finding right-ventricle functional parameters from cardiac MRI images contains segmentation of right-ventricle in each slice of end diastole and end systole phases of cardiac cycle and calculation of end diastolic and end systolic volume and furthermore other functional parameters. The main problem of this task is the segmentation part. We used a robust method based on deformable model that uses shape information for segmentation of right-ventricle in short axis MRI images. After segmentation of right-ventricle from base to apex in end diastole and end systole phases of cardiac cycle, volume of right-ventricle in these phases calculate...

Distribution network reconfiguration (DNR) is a crucial issue in the operating horizon of distribution systems. In distribution networks tie switches will be changed to obtain an appropriate network configuration with minimum losses. Distribution networks have hundreds of switches and determining the best status of switches is a complicated combinatorial, non-differentiable constrained optimization problem, which can be solved using heuristic optimization

Investigations show that millions of people all around the world die as the result of sudden cardiac death (SCD), each year. These deaths can be reduced by using medical equipments such as defibrillators. However, there are no suitable ways to predict sudden cardiac death, if there exist; doctors can take good decisions for patients at risk. In this paper, we investigated a way to predict sudden cardiac death. To do this, after extraction of the HRV signal from ECG signal, some linear, time-frequency (TF) and non-linear features have been extracted from HRV signal. Then, the dimension of features space reduced by applying feature selection and finally, healthy people and people at risk of SCD, are classified by kNN (k Nearest Neighbor) and MLP (Multilayer Perceptron) neural network. To evaluate the capabilities of analytical methods in classification , we have compared the classification rates for both separate and combined nonlinear and TF features. The results show that there are ...

ABSTRACT In this paper, a novel audio steganography method is proposed. In this algorithm, first embedding threshold in the time domain is estimated. Then this threshold is used for data concealment in the time domain. The performance of the proposed scheme in terms of SNR (signal to noise ratio) and BER (bit error rate) is analyzed. An estimation formula that connects SNR with embedding threshold has been provided to ensure the transparency of embedded data. The security of this method is enhanced by using of an encryption method prior to the data embedding step. Proposed scheme is a high velocity method because of its implementation in the temporal domain. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method has high payload, full and blind recovery and high audio quality.

ABSTRACT Model based segmentation is one of the best methods for segmentation of the heart in CT and MRI images. Because of basic characteristics of the heart shape, it can be represented by such models like ellipse and superellipse. Among model based methods elliptic and superelliptic methods are more computationally expensive. But when prior knowledge of the heart shape is available the parameter estimations become reliable. In this paper we propose a 3-D semi-automatic heart segmentation using transverse axis slices. The approach consists of fitting superellipse to each slice and making a 3-D superellipsoid model of the heart. We used an iterative method over a set of given data as partial data. Moreover partial data for obtaining prior knowledge of the heart shape are used that makes our method computationally less expensive. Results show that the addition of partial data increase robustness of a fitting. Also this method can segment hidden parts of heart in transverse axis CT images.

ABSTRACT In this paper a bilateral resistive circuit is designed and presented with is work as a positive and negative electronically tunable resistor and has zero DC offset. The proposed topology is designed by paralleling two electronically tunable resistors to obtain lower resistive values and decreasing nonlinearity percent. The proposed topology is low voltage and low power and with proper transcurrent circuit, its current–voltage characteristics can be linear, expansive (square) and compressive (square root). Its supply voltages are ±1 V and its dynamic range is ±1 V too. The designed circuit is simulated in an industrial 65 nm CMOS process. The linear version is tunable over the wide resistance range of 7 kΩ–37 GΩ.
