To analyze differences in sociodemographic characteristics associated with health in individuals ... more To analyze differences in sociodemographic characteristics associated with health in individuals with and without a residential telephone line. Data from the ISA-Capital 2003 (2003 Health Survey), a study performed in the city of São Paulo, Southeastern Brazil, were analyzed. Residents who had a residential telephone line were compared to those who reported not having a telephone line, according to sociodemographic, lifestyle, health status and health service use variables. Bias associated with non-coverage of the population without a telephone line was estimated, decreasing after the use of post-stratification adjustments. Of all the 1,878 interviewees aged more than 18 years, 80.1% had a residential telephone line. By comparing groups, the main sociodemographic differences among individuals who did not have a residential telephone line were the following: younger age, greater proportion of black and mixed individuals, smaller proportion of married interviewees, and greater proport...

Knowledge of the factors associated with this injury may subsidize campaigns to encourage change in the population's lifestyle. The objective of this study is to estimate the prevalence of dyslipidemia and to identify associated factors. Cross-sectional population-based study, with individual data from the Telephone Survey on Risk Factors and Protection for Chronic Diseases Surveillance System (VIGITEL). It included 7,975 individuals of both sexes, aged ≥ 18 years living in state capitals in the central-west of Brazil, in the year 2009. Associations were estimated using Poisson regression. The prevalence of dyslipidemia was 15%, increased with age (p = < 0.01) did and not differ significantly according to sex. After adjustments, the variables that were directly associated with the outcome were overweight (p = < 0.01), obesity (p = < 0.01) and self-rated health as poor (p = < 0.01). Regular consumption of bean (≥ 5 days/week) was inversely associated with the prevalence of dyslipidemia (p = < 0.01). The prevalence of dyslipidemia in the central-west of Brazil was increased with age and was associated with bean consumption, excess weight (overweight and obesity) and self-rated health as poor.

This was a cross-sectional study conducted in several countries between 2000 and 2003, including Brazil. Representative random samples of women aged 15-49 years with intimate partners were selected, living in the city of São Paulo (n = 940) and in the Zona da Mata, Pernambuco (n = 1,188), southeastern and northeastern regions, respectively. Exploratory factor analysis on questions relating to violence was performed (four psychological, six physical and three sexual questions), with varimax rotation and creation of three factors. Cronbach's alpha was calculated to analyze the internal consistency. To validate through extreme groups, mean scores (0 to 13 points) for violence were tested in relation to the following outcomes: self-rated health, daily activities, presence of discomfort or pai...
