The poet distilled and essentialized the anacreontic discursive landmarks of the 18th century, thereby prefiguring the compelling lines that defined the vision of Romanian Romanticism. In his verses, he established the ‘eroticonʹ of the gaze, the ‘erotologyʹ of seduction, and sketched the first metaphysical contours of absolute love. The portrayal of love in Conachiʹs poetry is an artful fusion of hedonistic theory and intensely dramatic experience. Here, love reveals all its facets – from the grotesque and the caricatural to the profoundly tragic. What remains with us from Conachiʹs legacy is a seminal poetic erotology, one that has realigned the amorous discourse of its time to new coordinates of sensitivity and artistic vision.

The Fragments VI tackles issues such as the aesthetics autonomy, the advantages and risks of revisions, the myths of the Romanian literature, the public and private morals of the writer, the limits of the compromise, the resistance through culture, etc. The plead for classics, the defense of great writers from the insults and the injustices of the day, the fight for the national values are part of a constant program of assuming everything that is essential and sustainable in the Romanian literature and culture. And it is a proof that the unwavering trust in the Romanian literature, doubled by the trust in the critic’s vocation to work in the name of the aesthetic truth have remained intact over time in Eugen Simion’s creation.

The books written in this section offer an overview of current critical thinking, of the most modern perspectives on literature approaching. The concept “arheul marginii”, by Andrei Țurcanu, offers an artistic and sociological grid for evaluating the relationship of the literary margin with the centre, i.e. of Romanian literature on both banks of the Prut, in a social, political and cultural context. The books of Emilian Galaicu Păun and Adrian Ciubotaru address current cultural phenomena (an anthropological vision of death, disease, suffering, etc.), important authors in Romanian and universal literature. Alexandru Burlacu analyses the 60th and 70th creation generations in Bessarabia, Dumitru Apetri – the phenomenon of translations, etc. All together they confirm a viable Bessarabian meta-literary process, connected to the latest Romanian and European literary challenges.

Intimacy is the only space in which the truth can be articulated, in which you can still be identical with yourself, contemporary with what you are in essence. The novel is also a journey in the history of erotic imaginary; it is a reinvention of the impediment and a rediscovery of erotic tension and intensity. The characters are projections of mythological consciousness, from the perspective of which art is always in full synchrony with life. Cornul inorogului (The Unicorn’s Horn) is a novel about eros, death, literature and the electrifying connections between them.
