“Materials for Georgian Ethnography” was prepared by the research fellows of ethnological departm... more “Materials for Georgian Ethnography” was prepared by the research fellows of ethnological departments at Niko Marr Institute of Language, History and Material Culture, later at Ivane Javakhishvili Institute of History, Archaeology and Ethnography and at last at Ivane Javakhishvili Institute of History and Ethnology. Since 2005 as a result of organisational problems the magazine was closed. Now Ivane Javakhishvili Institute of History and Ethnology is one of the constituent part of Tbilisi State University. The researchers at the Department of Ethnology of Georgia decided to give a new life to the journal using the old title. We assert that we are inclined to continue the tradition based on the roots of Georgian ethnological school founded by the Academician Giorgi Chitaia, to demonstrate the meaning and importance of Ethnographic materials and researches, wide thematic spectrum, variety of methodological approaches and new prospects of disciplinary development.
