North Peruvian pipeline was built on a recent quaternary eolian deposit, so a research area in Olmos near to the structure was used for tests. In the geotechnical research campaign were carried out in an arrangement multi-channel and standard penetration test in order to obtain Vs and N respectively. The correlations in this publication are for eolian sand deposits that can potentially be used in other regions with similar characteristics. The correlations presented are; N₆₀ - Vs considering and incorporating into the model the influence of the effective overload.

This tendency and the necessity of reducing project costs have been stimulating the development of new technologies as well as the enhancement of floating production systems. In this regard, pipelines and flexible riser systems have been getting more attention due to its low cost of installation and operation. In order to project a pipeline system, it is important to understand the pipe-soil interaction mechanisms and quantify the influence of soil behaviour on pipe response caused by lateral movement such as thermal buckling. The loads that a pipeline is subjected have been a topic of many experimental studies that aim to reproduce those loads in a realistic manner. This present study concerns the analysis of lateral clay-pipe interaction associated with large deformations and berm formation process at the leading edge of the pipe during movement at given burial depths. In order to analyze the stability of such structures, one must properly study the unsaturated soil behavior. Collapsible soils are frequent sand soil that are susceptible to a significant and sudden reduction in volume upon wetting. An important factor is matric suction, which es related to moisture content through the soil water Characteristic Curve (SWCC), the SWCC is obtained through a filter paper technique and provides a valuable relationship between suction and water content unique to soils. This measures the influence of parameters on the behavior of the structure of collapsible soil. Interactions between structure and soil must be properly evaluated as the bearing capacities of shallow and deep foundations are linked to properties of soil suction, moisture, and grade saturation. This work has experimentally measured the parameters of suction and moisture on the behavi...

Muscle mass is decreased in OI, even when short stature is taken into account. Dynamic muscle tests aiming at maximal eccentric force production reveal functional deficits that can not be explained by low muscle mass alone. However, it appears that diaphyseal bone mass is normally adapted to muscle force. At present the determinants of muscle mass and function in OI have not been clearly defined. Physiotherapy interventions and bisphosphonate treatment appear to have some effect on muscle function in OI. Interventions targeting muscle mass have shown encouraging results in OI animal models and are an interesting area for further research.

The objective of this paper is to compare the expected geotechnical load capacity through empirical and semi-empirical Brazilian methods with the ultimate pile load obtained from the interpretation of Dynamic Load Tests (DLT; PDA). The stress-settlement curve was constructed from CAPWAP analysis with blows of different drop heights of increasing energy – test procedure proposed by Aoki (1989). Continuous flight augering (CFA) Franki and Root piles were evaluated in this study. These piles were tested in different cities in Brazil. Additionally, DLT results were compared with static load tests, and a good correlation was found with these field tests. The article aims to provide comparative background to guide foundation designers, as well as those who routinely develop these projects in Brazil.

In this study, a series of centrifuge tests was performed on a model pipeline buried in Roncador oil field marine clay. The soil mass movement was modelled using a vertical plate that pushed the soil towards the pipe. The test setup allowed the measurement of deformations and forces developed in the pipe during the consolidation of the soil and due to the soil movement. The influence of pipe embedment was also investigated through different tests with different soil heights above the pipe crest. The results indicate that the force transmitted to the pipeline decreases with the increase of the pipe freedom to displace when subjected to the soil loading. Additionally, the force on the pipe increases as the embedment ratio increases. The tests results were compared with different analytical approaches d...

Conventional genotyping study of a community outbreak of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) that occurred in Kanchanaburi Province, Thailand was carried out. The study revealed that the outbreak was clonal and the strain was identified as a member of Beijing family. Although, the outbreak isolates showed identical spoligotyping and mycobacterial interspersed repetitive units-variable number tandem repeats patterns, a discrepancy regarding ethambutol resistance was observed. In-depth characterization of the isolates through whole genome sequencing of the first and the last three isolates from our culture collection showed them to belong to principal genetic group 1, single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) cluster group 2, sequence type 10. Compared with the M. tuberculosis H37Rv reference genome, 1242 SNPs were commonly found in all isolates. The genomes of these isolates were shown to be clonal and highly stable over a 5-year period and two or three unique SNPs were identified in each of the last three isolates. Genes known to be associated with drug resistance and their promoter regions, where applicable, were analyzed. The presence of low or no fitness cost mutations for drug resistance and an additional L731P SNP in the rpoB gene was observed in all isolates. These findings might account for the successful transmission of this MDR-TB strain.
