MySpira is the world first augmented reality (AR) asthma inhaler training app; it enables children to learn asthma keywords, types of inhalers, the preparation of the inhaler and spacer, asthma triggers, and develop skills on how to use an asthma inhaler effectively. All of these are compiled into an enjoyable 20-minute experience, introducing likable characters and tactile interactions, which incentivise the child to progress all the way through the learning experience. This study aimed to compare the efficacy of the MySpira application to traditional educational material (e.g. leaflets and videos) to improve asthma treatment compliance, technique and user engagement amongst 110 schoolchildren, aged 6 to 13. The findings indicate that MySpira surpasses the traditional educational materials, specifically in terms of enjoyment rating, the use of different inhalers’ techniques, particularly in the younger group (aged 6-9 years). Therefore, MySpira may enhance the level of available ...

Background: The prevalence rate of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) has increased significantly worldwide from 1/10000 in the early 90’s to 1/150 in 2009. The rise in ASD rate has concomitantly raised the awareness about the disorder, and increased the demands for more research, support services, recreational resources and highly trained special education professionals. Moreover, it brought the call to action in individual countries to further investigate the local prevalence rate as well as the detailed demographic distribution of children with ASD within each country. In developing countries, this is still a challenging task. No information about ASD rate or distribution is available in the Gulf countries, including Qatar. Despite the fact that the state of Qatar has started the initiative of setting the world autism awareness day (WAAD), rate and demographic distribution of children with ASD in Qatar is yet to be established. There is no central ASD database to quanti...

The electrical conduction of pristine (undoped) and iodine doped vacuum deposited films of the novel donors, dibenzodithiotetra-thionaphthalene and dibenzodithiotetraselenonaphthalene were measured. The electronic structures of these donor compounds were examined experimentally by ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy and theoretically by semiempirical MO calculations and compared with the corresponding data of tetrathiotetracene.
