In Turkey, 19 pathogens transmitted by ticks to humans and animals have been reported. Based on this, this study aimed to investigate tick-borne pathogens including Hepatozoon spp., Theileria spp., Babesia spp., Anaplasma spp., Borrelia spp., and Bartonella spp. in tick samples (n = 110) collected from different hosts (dogs, cats, cattle, goats, sheep, and turtles) by molecular methods. Methods To meet this objective, ticks were identified morphologically at the genus level by microscopy; after DNA isolation, each tick sample was identified at the species level using the molecular method. Involved pathogens were then investigated by PCR method. Results Seven different tick species were identified including Rhipicephalus sanguineus, R. turanicus, R. bursa, Hyalomma marginatum, H. anatolicum, H. aegyptium, and Haemaphysalis erinacei. Among the analyzed ...

Sheep farms in the provinces of Lefkosa, Guzelyurt, Girne, G. Magosa and Iskele have been analysed. The data used in analysis are obtained from 218 sheep farms. In sheep farms, fertility traits obtained such as infertility rate, fecundity, the number of lambs weaned per ewe mated and lamb mortality rate are 8.81, 1.17, 1.03 and 16.79%, respectively, growth traits as average marketing weight and marketing age are 39.33 kg and 147.11 days, respectively, milk yield traits as daily average milk yield, milking period and milk yield obtained by milking period are 0.67 kg/day, 96.67 day/year and 66.99 kg/year, respectively and average wool yield for ewe and ram are 1.37 and 2.55 kg, respectively. Average agricultural income per farm is 6281.72 NTL according to the prices of 2002 year of prices.

A total of 9111 head cattle and 10199 head sheep and 1078 goats carcasses were used. Total carcass amount and average carcass weight according to species considering year and season were analysed. Although the effect of year was found significant on yearling and cows carcass weight (P<0.05), its effect was not significant for sheep and goat carcass weight. While average carcass weight for sheep and goat differed significantly according to season, cattle carcasses did not differ significantly except cows carcasses. Average carcass weight for calves, yearlings, heifers and cows were 41.03, 264.51, 168.64 and 209.68 kg , respectively. Average carcass weight for lamb, sheep, kids and goat were 9.36, 15.80, 8.85 and 13.37 kg, respectively.
