It also aimed at mapping up the way forward based on what works in the light of the new normal. The inception of the Covid 19 Pandemic resulted in sudden disruptions in most national systems including the educational systems in Zimbabwe. The Government responded to the pandemic with lockdowns, travel restrictions and social distancing. Within the tertiary education realm, the teacher training system was among those that were hard-hit because the teacher education program includes both theoretical and practical components. The practical component is the teaching practice, the hands-on experience that is significant to the student teachers. This meant that the nationally enforced COVID 19 restrictions would need adjustments in and restructuring of the pedagogical activities and ...

Their growth rates show that conditions in Lake Kariba are comparable to their native lakes. Nile tilapia escaped into Lake Kariba from fish farms and displaced an endemic native tilapia, Oreochromis mortimeri. This provided an opportunity to study the impact of an invading species sharing an ecological niche with a native species, and traits that may give competitive advantage. I conclude that a superior growth rate of Nile tilapia, resulting in a larger size that I showed to be advantageous in aggressive encounters with Oreochromis mortimeri, and a higher reproductive effort have contributed to its success. Additionally, the results support that fish introductions into an occupied niche may not result in higher catches. The sardine was deliberately introduced into a vacant niche, the...

One of the major consequences of the Covid 19 Pandemic was a sudden paradigm shift from traditional modes of delivering instruction to modern technologically compliant modes such as e- learning and multimodal instruction. The issue of concern is whether or not the different categories of learners have their pedagogical needs adequately met in a virtual classroom. The researcher carried out a literature review analysis using search engines such as Google Scholar, Ebsco and others. For the past few decades there has been great emphasis on inclusive education. However, the preponderance of literature available focuses on special needs learners or learners with some disability. The major theories that inform the study are Howard Gardner’s theory of Multiple Intelligences, Fleming and Mills’ VARK theory and The Universal Design for Learning. The findings from readings and practice revealed th...

The main objective was to analyse the employment status of youth in relation to the skills they have. Results indicated that the majority of the respondents are not formally employed, or those employed are not employed in the jobs they trained for. As a result, there is a high level of skills mismatch leading to skills obsolescence. Many graduates are unemployed or have resorted to self- employment or some type of entrepreneurship. The results also indicate that most of the research participants are engaged in hybrid jobs, mainly technical jobs so as to reduce the impact of skills obsolescence and at the same time earn some money to make a living. The study recommends that young people be encouraged to train in multi disciplines whilst in University or College so as to have career flexibility and competitive advantage when they graduate.

A qualitative descriptive case study was used in this study. Ten 10 student leaders were purposively selected from a total of 24 student leaders. In-depth interviews were used to solicit the student leaders’ perceptions on the effectiveness of the student leadership training offered to the newly elected student leaders. Data collected was analysed using thematic Analysis. Findings of the study indicate that the student leadership program was deemed effective as it became an eye opener for most of the student leaders as it helped some to change their attitudes for better. The major strengths of the training program that were highlighted include that firstly the timing was very appropriate, coming soon after the installation and inauguration of the new leaders, before they assumed duties so they could...

An interpretive phenomenological study was carried out on eight purposively selected educational entrepreneurs from Harare Urban and Harare peri-Urban in order to study their lived experiences through the Covid 19 Pandemic. Semi- structured interviews were used to collect data from the 8 research participants. Data collected was coded and placed into clusters according to similarities. Similar clusters were merged into 5 themes. These 5 themes summarized the lessons learnt through the lived experiences of the research participants. Although the Covid 19 pandemic has caused negative impacts globally, the reports from the lived experiences indicate that there were several positive aspects that emerged from this pandemic. Such positive outcomes include opening business opportunities for educational entrepreneurs, job creation, professional development and development of res...

The main aim of the study was to assess the impact of COVID 19 Pandemic on the learning experiences of second year student teachers on teaching practice during the COVID 19 Pandemic. Seven student teachers from a class of 55 were purposively sampled and interviewed. Semi-structured interviews were used. Data collected was transcribed and coded . Inductive thematic analysis was used to analyse the data. Results indicate that there were both negative and positive impacts on the student teachers learning experiences due to the COVID 19 Pandemic. The major negative impacts were the disruption of the teaching practice sequence to the extent that they could not thoroughly master some of the competencies due to the limited contact time with the school pupils and mentors during the prolonged lock down, Some of the student teachers indicated that to some extent, there was also negative effect on their mental health and social life as they ...

A causal comparative survey was conducted in Harare. The researcher purposefully selected 93 participants, then employees in four different employing institutions at the time the research was conducted. The basis for the selection of the research participants is that they had gone through Ordinary level education at a secondary school in Zimbabwe where they were influenced by either of the two or both types of career guidance. Each participant completed a 45-item, closed form questionnaire indicating his/her perceptions about the career guidance he/she had received and how satisfied they felt about their careers. The results were analysed using SPSS, 20.0. A Chi-square Test was carried out to compare the relative strengths of the two major sources of influence, form...
