The objective of the study was focused on the antifungal activity of herbal plants obtained from Salem, Tamil Nadu. The collected fresh leaves of Cassia alata, Cynodon dactylon, Ocimum tenuiflorum, Curcuma aromatica and Hydnocarpus laurifolia were made into an ointment after standard processing. The ointment showed significant activity against the fungi Aspergillus niger. The aqueous extract of Cassia alata showed maximum relative percentage inhibition against Aspergillus niger (13±1mm). Minimum inhibitory concentration was performed by modified agar well diffusion method on Potato Dextrose Broth and Potato Dextrose Agar. Minimum inhibitory concentration values of aqueous extract of Cassia alata varied from 25-100 mg/ml. This result obtained here suggests that the extract bear antifungal metabolites and considered as the potential source for antifungal drug development.

Niosomes are nonionic surfactant vesicles that have potential applications in the delivery of hydrophobic or amphiphilic drugs. But it has certain drawbacks like physical stability such as aggregation, fusion and leaking, and has shown some inconvenience in transportation, distribution and storage. A novel drug delivery system, Proniosomes, a dry formulation minimizes all such problems related to niosomes. These proniosomes are used to produce niosomes within minutes by the addition of hot water followed by agitation and such proniosome-derived niosomes are as good as or even better than conventional niosomes. Proniosomes can be prepared using suitable carrier among the different carriers such as maltodextrin, sorbitol, lactose, mannitol, magnesium aluminum silicate, microcrystalline cellulose. The present study involves comparison of such carriers and criteria for selection of suitable carrier for the preparation of the proniosomes.

People are using medicinal plants for many decades for wellbeing, effectiveness, nativity, and reduced side effects. Herbs and herbal products partake been applied with evidence base to treat and avoid ailments all over times past. Written palm leaf manuscripts and literature about medicinal plants available in Sangam period age about 5000 years compare to the Sumerians and earliest records are recommended prior use of therapeutic plants in Siddha medicine. Due to adverse effects of synthetic products, in attendance is a shift towards AYUSH therapies and medicinal plants. However, share of global market by Indians in medicinal plants related to economy has not reached its mark due to lack of translation as products existing in another arena. This chapter deals about positioning India in world market and attempts to deal about areas where the strength of Siddha prevails to translate knowledge from the lab to layman as products.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) caused by the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2), a pandemic, which has led to the spread of mortality and morbidity all over the globe. In this dire situation, there is an urgent requirement for the development and immediate dissemination of treatment against COVID‐19. The traditional medicine system of Siddha can be utilized as preventive care to boost the immune system. The vast treasure of knowledge found in Siddha medicine can help in the betterment of humankind. Kabasura Kudineer (KSK) is from the ancient times present as an immune-boosting agent against several diseases. The present experimental setup to investigate the immunomodulatory and thrombolytic potential of KSK. The in vitro immunomodulatory models of phagocytosis of Candida albicans assay and nitro blue tetrazolium have demonstrated that KSK is giving better results compared with the controls (pooled serum, lipopolysaccharide, and streptokinase). The KSK at the concentrations of 12.5, 25, 50, and 100 μg/ml showed % immune-stimulations of 12.40 %, 20.81 %, 33.53 %, 43.20 % and for NBT showed 19.00 %, 25.50 %, 64.00 %, 71.00 % respectively. And similarly, the thrombolytic activity showed 50 and 100 μg/ml concentration showed 43.83 %, 71.83 % clot lysis respectively; and the control value for the streptokinase showed 83.78 %. Hence, it can be confirmed that KSK has immunomodulatory and thrombolytic properties in in vitro models, although the in vivo and the identification of KSK are to be discovered.

Classical Siddha medicine recommends the usage of functionally parallel substitute raw drugs in the scarcity of the original material. The concept of standard raw drug substitution is designated by the Tamil term Matru sarakku, which emphasizes selecting alternatives either in herbal or non-herbal sources based on certain attributes. Functionally similar materials are suggested for balancing the deficit based on such parameters. Literature sources from Siddha medicine and other allied subjects were explored and documented for the inclusive understanding of the concept of ideal substitution. Few of the standard substitutes mentioned in the classical Siddha literature were evaluated in a scientific account for its justification. An outlook on different specimens as described in the ancient texts of Tamil medicine indicates the usage of substitutes from numerous plants, animals, and other metallo-mineral ingredients. The rationale of selecting alternatives primarily depends on the equi...
