Cortés in the territories from what in current days is the state of Mexico, are a clear example of this human activity. Also in Medellín (Spain), the native population of that conqueror, the same kind of conquest processes and occupation of different cultures has occurred throughout History.
With this work work, we vill try to explain that the historical grounds from his birthplace had to decisively influence the colonizing character of Cortes and at the same time, we will try to show the reader some little known archeological vestiges of the Medellin he knew.

Exceptional unpublished inscription discovered in 2008 in the subsoil of Mérida during archaeological works that took place in the centre of Mérida in the calle Cervantes. It is a fragment of a round slate plaque which, on one side, preserves remains of a text inscribed within a circle. Despite the scarcity of the text preserved, it is possible to detect, with all due caution, the mention of the military unit (Leg. VII G.F.) and century (Mercatoris) in which the dedicator (or dedicators) of the offering was enrolled. The expression of the usual votive formula v.s.l.m. and the peculiarity of the support, a circular stone tabula, lead us to propose its use as a mensa sacra. According to the paleographic and internal criteria of the text, it may be dated to the Flavian period, during the first years of settlement of the Legion VII Gemina in Hispania.
