The translation of literature is a process not limited to the transposition of a piece of work into another language. The role of the media, the reputation of the publisher and its editorial line, the stereotypes attached to the country in which the book originated and specific events occurring at the time of publication can be considered to be part of the translation process as these factors form the context in which the book is read. These have played an essential part in the translation into French of Australian author Robert Dessaix.
