Cet ouvrage invite à suivre au plus près les mouvements d’oscillation de
l’écriture de Marguerite Duras – d’un genre médiatique à l’autre – et les modulations
d’une trame narrative présente d’une oeuvre à l’autre : la romance, la
jeune fille et l’amant, le bal… La « nature indécise » de la langue durassienne
est ici révélée, décortiquée, par une relecture attentive et enthousiaste de
l’auteure. Celle-ci met au jour un aspect inexploré de l’esthétique de l’artiste
en comparant un triple corpus (littérature, théâtre, cinéma) et se penche
notamment sur les croisements entre poétique et politique dans leur relation
à l’Histoire, ainsi que sur les aspects subversifs qui marquent l’entrécriture de
Marguerite Duras.

Marguerite Duras’s works deal with the problems typical of the literary studies in the second half of the twentieth century: presence and absence, abandoning chronological order of events, and eroticism. This article analyses her literary technique, including text fragmentation and elliptical style. The author searches for appropriate means of expression, often using silence and loneliness in keeping with her vision of absence attributed to women, kept silent by the dominant culture. Omissions in the narrative emphasise the inexpressible, beyond rational. Absence is meaningful, e.g. the missing photograph in The Lover. Absence also implies a desire to change and to write. Duras shows the problem in the context of a hidden image and an act of creation. The missing word alludes to a search of self. The author grasps complexity and diversity of absence. It is part of the theme, style, and text structure, emphasising the limitations of the language and the powerlessness of the protagonist.

Intellectual committed and politically aligned, scandalous, controversial, Marguerite Duras places listening and desire at the center of her writing. Her pen tells us the taste and disgust of life, nausea and appetite, perfumes and stench, hunger and fasting. Here we find the flavors and recipes that accompanied her life and her works, including the famous booklet "La cuisine de Marguerite", withdrawn from the market and now a cult object.

Le thème de la destruction, qui insiste dans l’œuvre de Marguerite Duras, paraît hautement problématique. Il s’associe à des personnages livrés à la folie et à l’errance, à l’intérêt porté par l’auteur aux conduites criminelles, ou encore à certaines de ses déclarations prônant l’abolition des conventions sociales et des valeurs culturelles. Cependant, loin d’être un mot d’ordre idéologique, ce terme touche à un point névralgique de la création durassienne, exprimant le rapport subjectif de l’auteur à la terrifiante dimension destructrice inhérente au langage. Paradoxalement, celle-ci lui offre un socle à partir duquel elle fait œuvre. “Détruire” revient donc à donner à l’écriture sa portée réelle.

"Marguerite Duras, to write and to destroy: a paradox of creation"

The theme of destruction, which insists in Marguerite Duras’ work, appears to be highly problematic. It is associated with characters given over to madness and wandering, with the author’s interest for criminal conduct, or to some of her declarations calling for the abolition of social conventions and cultural values. However, far from being an ideological slogan, this term touches on a crucial point of Duras’ creation, expressing the author’s subjection relationship to the terrifying destructive dimension inherent in language. Paradoxically, the latter offers her a basis from which she builds a work of art. “To destroy” therefore means to give its real dimension to writing.

Le séminaire a pour objectif principal une étude de l’œuvre de Marguerite Duras (texte, théâtre, film) selon une variété d’approches critiques et théoriques, dont l’intertextualité, l’intermédialité, la philosophie et les théories féministes et de genre. Plus spécifiquement, il s’agira de traverser cette œuvre tentaculaire selon une trajectoire non-linéaire et a-parallèle (G. Deleuze : 1977, 1996), afin de suivre au plus près le mouvement d’une écriture hybride (Budor et Geerts : 2004), qui passe par une série de modulations et de pratiques oscillant entre la littérature, le théâtre et le cinéma. Les modulations d’une trame narrative, à l’exemple de celle du bal ou de la mendiante, contenues notamment dans les romans Le Ravissement de Lol V. Stein (1964) et Le Vice-consul (1965), sont à la base d’une pratique singulière, la réécriture, qui s’inscrit dans un entre-deux-textes. Le séminaire insistera sur la « nature indécise » de l’écriture durassienne, pour reprendre l’expression désormais consacrée par Madeleine Borgomano (1985), et conséquemment sur le mouvement et l’échange entre les différents types d’écriture (romanesque, journalistique, essayiste, dramatique, scénaristique, filmique, etc.).
L’hétérogénéité de l’œuvre durassienne, l’évolution de ses formes et l’incidence du contexte historique dans lequel s’inscrit ses créations, dont l’avènement du féminisme en France, participeront de l’analyse comparée de textes et de films. À cela s’ajoutera l’héritage des pratiques durassiennes sur la production contemporaine récente, à l’exemple du récit Pornocratie (C. Breillat, 2001), duquel est inspiré le film Anatomie de l’enfer (C. Breillat, 2004), du spectacle théâtral Le Duras show (Compagnie Mobile Home, 2011) et du jeu vidéo Bientôt l’été (Studio Tale of Tales, 2013).

There are two aspects of Lacanian psychoanalysis that may be particularly appealing to those on the critical margins of social psychology.  First, like discourse analysis and critical psychology, Lacanian psychoanalysis incorporates a focus on language (Branney, 2008) and therefore the concerns of some critical psychologists and discourse analysts, such as with critiquing the social order or bringing the social within psychology, may be easily assimilated.  Second, Lacanian psychoanalysis would seem to be incompatible with psychology (Parker, 2003) and therefore provides an alternative perspective from which to consider, and perhaps undermine, the assumptions of psychology.  Attempts to utilise Lacanian psychoanalysis that could be brought together under a rubric of critical psychology and discourse analysis include analyses of the production of girls’ desire in comics (Walkerdine, 1987), of views of the self in long-term psychotherapy (Georgaca, 2001; 2003), and of understandings of domestic violence in government policy (Branney, 2006).  We shall use ‘critical psychology’ (or ‘critical psychologist’) and ‘discourse analysis’ (or ‘discourse analyst’) as separate terms because, while many aspects of critical psychology do draw upon discourse analysis, a discourse analytic approach may be neither necessary nor sufficient to be critical of psychology.  Hollway’s (1989) consideration of heterosexual subjectivity is perhaps the one most obviously aligned with attempts, from the margins, to use discourse analysis to be critical of psychology.  Along with Changing the Subject: Psychology, Social Regulation, and Subjectivity (Henriques et al., 1984), Hollway’s Subjectivity and Method in Psychology: Gender, Meaning, and Science (1989) can be understood as an attempt to change the subject of psychology and the theory of subjectivity that psychology relied upon.  Hollway (ibid.) drew upon a mixture of discourse analysis, and Kleinian and Lacanian psychoanalysis to examine material from interviews and her journal.  But, as Hook so aptly puts it: the lack of engagement of critical social psychology with Lacanian psychoanalysis is an ‘oddity’ that is “striking inasmuch as Lacanian theory offers important insights into many of what we might consider the constituting problematics of social psychology” (Hook, 2008, p. 2), such as racism, ideology, and social identity.  If we are to combine Hook’s work (ibid.) with Georgaca (2005) and Parker (2003; 2005), we have what can be understood as a small body of work on the margins of psychology that elucidates Lacanian psychoanalysis for critical psychologists and discourse analysts.  Our focus is on Hook, Georgaca, and Parker, because they, whether explicitly or implicitly, explicate what Lacanian psychoanalysis would be if it were used in critical psychology and discourse analysis.  This small body of work is steadily growing and includes, for example, Frosh and Baraitser’s (in press) examination of psychoanalysis in psychosocial studies, a special issue of the journal Subjectivities and other work in this volume.  In this paper, our first aim is to turn to this body of work to put a bit more flesh on what Lacanian psychoanalysis offers those critical of psychology...

Si H Story s'inscrit dans le sillage de Hiroshima, mon amour écrit par Marguerite Duras et réalisé par Alain Resnais en 1959, Suwa Nobuhiro en déplace le drame. En confiant le rôle d'Emmanuelle Riva à Béatrice Dalle, il substitue à l'impossibilité qu'éprouve la première à vivre un amour, l'incapacité de la seconde à incarner ce personnage. L'actrice saisit, bien avant tout le monde, la vaine entreprise que constitue ce remake, son impertinence, son non-sens. C'est le corps de l'actrice au travail, mais plus encore, ce qui travaille ce corps, que le réalisateur va observer jusqu'à son épuisement. Choisir de filmer une oeuvre en train de s'élaborer, en faire le précepte d'une fiction cinématographique, c'est la volonté de réunir théorie et pratique dans un même plan. En interprétant lui-même le rôle du réalisateur de son film, le cinéaste assemble dans un même espace-temps, deux figures traditionnelles des arts de la représentation, celle du portrait et de son auto-portrait. Suwa Nobuhiro est né à Hiroshima quinze ans après l'explosion atomique. Sa présence physique dans le film témoigne d'une interrogation et d'un engagement spécifique par rapport à sa ville natale. Comment filmer cette ville qui fait si intimement partie de son être ? Suwa vérifie ce que Ozu (cinéaste qu'il aime citer), savait en son temps. Observant le désordre et le chaos du monde, Ozu pensa, à ce moment-là de sa vie et de celle du Japon de l'immédiate après-guerre, que la tragédie était devenue impossible à représenter après Hiroshima. « Après bien des détours, j'ai décidé que H Story traiterait de la difficulté de détourner un film sur la mémoire et l'émotion. » écrit Suwa dans une note d'intention publiée dans le dossier de presse lors de la sortie du film. Les mots qui séparent Au cours de l'été 1957, une comédienne française venue à Hiroshima pour y tourner un film sur la paix, rencontre un architecte japonais. Elle parle d'elle, de son enfance, de la France occupée, d'un amour radieux et douloureux qu'elle a l'impression de revivre avec lui, en ce lieu de désastre. Il 3 marzo 2021 ricorre il venticinquesimo anno dalla scomparsa di Marguerite Duras. Per l'occasione tento di dipingere un ritratto di Marguerite Duras, il suo rapporto con il gesto di scrivere, con la parola, con il linguaggio, con la memoria e con i limiti. Nessuna pretesa di esaustività, solo il bisogno, quasi una necessità, di ridisegnare una parte del paesaggio durassiano.

Dans cette communication, je m’intéresserai à l’apport du virtuel dans Le Camion (1977). Selon Gilles Deleuze, une perception équivaut à une particule: «[…] une perception actuelle s’entoure d’une nébulosité d’images virtuelles qui se distribuent sur des circuits mouvants de plus en plus éloignés, de plus en plus larges, qui se font et se défont». C’est dire que les images virtuelles «rebondissent» comme des particules sur l’actuel. Dans Le Camion, ce qui tient lieu de l’actuel, le film auquel le spectateur assiste, se fait complément ou produit, donc objet de l’actualisation, alors que cette dernière n’a pour sujet que le virtuel: le devenir-film contenu dans le texte. Le lecteurspectateur a pour rôle de «compléter» le film en jouant constamment sur ces deux niveaux: l’actuel et le virtuel. Son rôle est grand, complexe, à l’image même du film auquel il se voit confronté.
