Western Balkan countries (excluded Kosovo) in the years 2006 and 2010 were granted the visa liberalisation in the European Union (EU). The Union is facing the flow of illegal immigrants. The Western Balkans play a vital role in the transit of illegal immigrants to Europe. The article is an analysis of the issue of the illegal immigration through the Balkan region to the EU. The author wants to characterize the way of the immigration, the background of the immigrants and the methods of some organized groups smuggling the immigrants and to present chosen action of the EU aimed at limiting the illegal immigration.
