Museums are not confined to a building and its collections, but may be located in 'open-air' spaces, allowing a tangible relationship between people and the surrounding landscape to be studied. Based on this ecological understanding, we would like to apply Gambardela's idea of an "Mediterranean Museum System of Design and Applied Arts" to the Turkish context. The idea is for an integrated museum system to link different archaeological and handcraft sites along D550 road from Canakkale to Assos. Archaeological and handcraft sites are chosen due to their heritage significance and impact on tourism in Turkey. The route from Canakkale to Assos has been less explored in terms of tourism and poses an opportunity to work with the local government to devise sustainable interventions. An inventory of the cultural landscape as well as strategies for landscape branding will be used to p...

current experiences on urban farming especially in Asian region. As the current dwellers of these lands, where remarked as the origins of the first civilizations and agrarian culture on earth, our generation should
have more sophisticated about urban agriculture. This paper will discuss the urban agriculture practices in the cities around silk-road with questioning the current trends and evaluating the future potentials.
Specifically, this paper goes on to explore the existing and future potentials of Istanbul in the proposed glocal food network.

We pursue a process oriented, spatial and culture based modeling approach with the emphasis on the potentials of agricultural landscape mosaic of Istanbul. Our findings showed that urban agriculture, especially bostan, has been an indisputable part of Istanbul’s historic development and is an important opportunity to maintain sustainable urban landscape and viability of urban society.
This study primarily uses theory and methodology from geography, geographic information science, and landscape ecology to analyze land use dynamics in the study area. The study consists of four parts. First, the description of the general characteristics and environmental facts of the study area are given. The second part contains the historical background of the agrarian culture and its spatial traces, which existed in today. The third part has been conducted at the interactions between agricultural land-uses and other land use types and the ambitions within spatial planning to define an ordered typology. Ikonos images dated June 2005 has been used for the analyses in Geographical Information Systems’ (GIS). Finally, the findings of the case study are summarized, along with arguments that underline the need for further case studies of agricultural uses at intra and peri urban landscapes.

While this diversity contains richness in a way, it also led to the formation of a multi-disciplinary structure. Beyond its rich context, this book deals with many topics in the planning and design dimensions of landscape(s) from today's perspective which carries multilingual characteristic. The chapters in the book discuss the concept of landscape in a wide range of topics such as urban design, green infrastructure, urban vegetation, legislation and green policies, urban agriculture, waste management, urban planning, rural landscape, and cultural landscape.
Basically, the emergence of this book is the gathering of researches made by PhD candidates within the scope of Advanced Landscape Studies course conducted by Bahar Başer Kalyoncuoğlu in Okan University's PhD Program in Architecture.
Thanks to Hussein Alfarhani, who contributed to the creation and editing of the book, and to Chouaib Guerrout, Eneida Haska, Saja Ali Alrawahneh, Othman Al-Masshadani, Modupe Odemakin, Djaber Ahriche, Siham Said, Esra'a Ja'far Hasan Altwassi, who contributed to the content of the book with their valuable researches.
Our intent, furthermore, is to continue the broadening and enrichment of the diverse meanings linked to the concept of landscape to bring the new and current scopes of twenty first century on debate. Especially we need to discuss about landscape more, during these extraordinary days due to Cov-19 Pandemic also breakthroughs in technology and changes in social life. In this context, we hope that this publication also contributes to the updating of the theoretical knowledge infrastructure in the intersection of cities, architecture and landscape.
