Gone are the dull cubicles or overly full open-plan spaces. Instead, companies are looking to create workplaces that are productive, highly functional and most importantly healthy. This research paper aims to establish a connection between workplace environment and employee well-being, as well as to identify the elements of design that impact the well-being of employees. The study is based on a comprehensive literature review of existing research on the topic, combined with interviews and surveys of employees in various industries. The paper provides an overview of the current state of research on workplace design and its impact on employee well-being, and then focuses on specific design elements that have been shown to have a positive impact on employee health, such as natural light, greenery, ergonomic furniture, and acoustic control. The findings of this research are intended to inform workplace designers, managers, and policy makers on the importance of creating work environments that support employee well-being, ultimately leading to increased job satisfaction, productivity, and overall organizational success. Studies justify that there are benefits of healthy workplace. In a healthy work environment, the productivity is increased by three times. There are 50% less chances of injuries in a healthier work space and also the workforce engagement is five times more.

The issue of providing housing for slum dwellers is not a challenge in the Indian context but throughout the world. Moreover, recent developments on the industrial and economic fronts have augmented the rates of migration. Besides, this migration is unidirectional, wherein people move from rural to urban areas. In the last few decades, this movement has always seen an upward trend adding enormous pressure on the receiving community as well as the governing bodies in the urban areas. Often, it has been witnessed that the people, especially belonging to the weaker sections end up in slums. However, the regular addition of people in the slums makes their life miserable. Since these people are part of society so they must be required to rehabilitate. Slum plays an important role in...

The idea of Abstraction can be best seen through Art, right from the prehistoric times when humans drew on walls with a depiction of forms with minimum and simplified sources. Each abstract style has an era dedicated to different methods through which the desired abstraction could be achieved. While numerous strategies play a role in indoor thermal comfort, the influence of envelope materials are dominant. Parametric simulation is an expedient tactic in contemporary times that models comfort conditions with transforming strategies. This study focusses on assessment of the comparative thermal performance of selected vernacular houses at Lucknow. This being a culturally rich city with typical composite climate has distinctly varied seasons and the vernacular houses forms have benefitted from combinations of high thermal capacity materials to combat thermal discomfort. This study uses Energyplus simulation software to quantitatively assess the role of construction materials utilised in the selected cases and establish recommendations for future usage.

The objective of the study has been to evaluate the core urban courtyard houses, colonial adapted bungalows and semi-rural mud houses at Lucknow to ascertain which type(s) have responded to the prevailing climate better than others and what factor(s) or strategies may be contributing for its (their) improved performances. Most significantly it has aimed to search for emergent energy efficient principles applicable to the region’s composite climate characterised by hot-dry summers, cold winters and intermediate warm-humid monsoon season. This has been pursued firstly by an in-depth study of deviant cases within each generic house type with respect to Lucknow’s composite climate assessing their anticipated performances. Later simultaneous monitoring of ...

In making a space more expressive, architectural elements play a significant role. Five buildings-Notre dame haut (Ronchamp), Schroder house, Vitra fire station, Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, and Parc de la Villette (follies) have been studied based on architectural elements, each observed and related (Post justification) to their particular abstract style-Cubism, De-Stijl, Suprematism, Abstract expressionism, and Pop Art respectively. A qualitative content analysis examines all the elements of space making and understands how abstraction affects them, resulting in observations and conclusions directing to different roles each element has to play for acquiring a state of abstraction. Abstraction in architecture could be achieved by the use and composition of architectural elements which are best inspired by abstraction in art. From these observations, the study recommends creating spaces and volumes with the concept of abstraction incorporated through the elements of architecture for a rich user experience.

India has a rich repository of vernacular evolved over centuries of living corresponding to its existing diverse vibrant and myriad environments providing a good evidence for unearthing these lessons. In the contemporary context where most architectural practices are deficient in their connection to tradition and socio-cultural bearings, looking back to vernacular architecture is prudent and relevant. Within this premise, the Narhai settlement at Lucknow: a culturally and architecturally prolific city in Northern India has been taken as a suitable case for an in depth analysis. The objective of this study is to identify architectural spaces facilitating its interaction within the existing socio-cultural environment. It also aspires to take lessons from the selected spaces in influencing socio-cultural interactions giving rise to recommendations useful for similar socio-cultural domains.
