Matthew Davis
Matthew is a Chartered Psychologist and Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society. Matthew works in overlapping areas focused on environmentally sustainable work behaviours and workspace design. He has a keen interest in socio-technical systems thinking and the design of work systems. Matthew is a founding member of the British Psychological Society’s (BPS) Division of Occupational Psychology (DOP) “Going Green” working group.
Matthew graduated from the University of Sheffield with a first class honours degree in Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience and later with a distinction from the Occupational Psychology MSc course. Matthew gained his PhD from the University of Leeds. His thesis concerned psychological and organizational issues in the design of workplaces.
Matthew’s expertise lies in the area of organizational and environmental psychology, particularly the promotion of environmentally sustainable work behaviour and the design of the physical work environment. His research focuses upon: the drivers and barriers to behaviour change, as well as techniques to encourage environmentally sustainable behaviour; office design and evaluation - in particular how individuals interact with and perceive their workspace and the benefits of end user involvement. He is also interested in applying socio-technical principles to the design of corporate sustainability programmes and innovative office space.
Matthew has won international, national and university awards for his work. Most recently being awarded the US Academy of Management “Making Connections” award recognising contributions that cross disciplinary, international and practitioner/academic divides. Matthew has presented at various international conferences; guest lectured at other universities; provided advice to leading organizations; presented at professional forums; and published practitioner advice.
