Correct assessment of wind potential in Cyprus is more critical than ever with the recent Renewable Energy Law and associated regulations in Northern Cyprus. In this work, time-series wind data from Larnaca region is analyzed in order to i) develop an assessment of wind power potential, suitable turbine type and configuration that could be deployed in south-eastern coast of Cyprus to harness the potential power, and ii) establish a method for further studies based on recent wind measurements at METU Northern Cyprus Campus (NCC). The results indicate that south-west facing vertical axis wind turbines optimized for Type III wind class and cut-in speed of 3 m/s would be suitable for use in Larnaca. The same analysis method will be applied at METU NCC location in north-western Cyprus after minimum time-series data set is complete.

In this paper, we present the solar opportunity as a renewable energy resource for Northern Cyprus, and based on measured data we compare two different solar energy collectors: Parabolic Trough and Fresnel systems. Depending on the beam and diffuse insolation and the topography, these systems’ advantages and disadvantages will be discussed, and a cost analysis will be presented throughout this paper.

While recently proposed capacitive threshold logic (CTL) design technology promises to offer a compact and effective solution to threshold detection, its potential to scale to different problem sizes was not previously quantified as compared to traditional CMOS implementations. In this work, CTL complexity, delay, power, and energy-delay product have been comparatively analyzed against compound, standard gate, and transmission-gate based traditional CMOS implementations of digital threshold detection. It is demonstrated by the results that CTL gains delay advantage over the alternate implementations as the number of inputs increase from few to ~10. However, analog nature of the CTL makes it challenging to scale the threshold detection to many more inputs. In addition, energy dissipated by CTL is likely to fall between that of compound CMOS and design using standard gates.
