Cilicia is part of the Eastern Mediterranean region in ancient times. The region is divided into two parts by ancient writers such as Strabo, Herodotus and Ptolemy. The western part of the region is called "Tracheia" because of its mountainous and rocky terrain, and the eastern part of the region is formed by the delta of the Seyhan and Ceyhan rivers named as "Pedias". The western part, namely Mountainous Cilicia, is called the Taşeli Plateau where many modern cities are built, and the section where the plains are located is named Çukurova. Tarsus is the capital of the Cilician Region and is located in its mountainous hinterland. Since 2016, researches are conducted by the chairmanship of Associate Professor Doctor Deniz Kaplan. During the survey of the 2017 season, six sarcophagi in Kırıt Mahallesi-Cankurtaran Mevkii were determined. These sarcophagi are the subject of this study. Four of the sarcophagi cannot be identified because of destruction. The sarcophagi, one of which is a"girland" sarcophagus and the other a "tabula ansata" sarcophagus are well preserved. These sarcophagi belong to the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD.
