Luciane Maimone
Hello! My friends and colleagues call me Lu. I'm an Assistant Professor of Applied Linguistics in the Department of Modern and Classical Languages at Missouri State University in Springfield, MO. At MCL I teach various courses in linguistics and foreign language teaching methods. I'm also the director of MCL's graduate studies. We have an exciting master's degree, the Masters in Applied Second Language Acquisition (MASLA) and three graduate certificates.
In the U.S., I had my first contact with linguistics when completing a Graduate Certificate in TESOL at MSU in 2009. Since then, I completed a master's degree in Hispanic Linguistics and a PhD in applied linguistics at Georgetown University. I have multiple research interests, but they all of them revolve around the Portuguese, my native language (I'm from Maringá, Brazil). Primarily, I'm interested in language assessment and L2 pedagogy, with a focus on crosslinguistic influence. I'm also interested in distance learning, telecollaboration. Heritage Spanish and language change are two other areas that I find fascinating.
Work in progress: Thirty years of machine translation in language teaching and learning: A review of the literature (paper accepted); L3 Portuguese and telecollaborative language learning: pinpointing gains in oral proficiency, complexity, accuracy, and fluency (paper accepted); The design of a Portuguese Elicited Imitation Task (paper submitted), Cross-linguistic effects of English and Spanish in the Acquisition of the L2/L3 Portuguese Future Subjunctive (paper submitted).
