In Spring 2014, I received my PhD in History focusing on African American history and culture. I have a Graduate Certificate in Gender Studies focused on Black Masculinities, Womanism, Black Feminisms, and Black Sexualities. I am interdisciplinary in the way I approach the African Diaspora combining history, gender, and culture. Currently, I am a MFA student in Documentary Expressions at The Center for the Study of Southern Culture at Ole Miss with a concentration in documentary storytelling (film and audio—podcast, oral history, & folklore) and Southern Studies (African Americans culture). Lastly, I have two MAs-- one in Journalism focusing on New Media and the other in Liberal Studies focusing on African American Culture and History.
The dissertation examines African American Freemasonry in the South during its height--manhood, economics, class, leadership, business savvy, intraracial problems, & activism.
The MFA thesis examines the Black Southern aesthetic, embodied knowledge, and womanism. The project is a multimedia website of 10 interviews of artists from or living in the South and myself discussing our Black aesthetic, inspirations, motivations, responsibilities, and Black Lives Matter.edit
