The paper presents a set of rules that explain the complementary distribution of the reflexes of ... more The paper presents a set of rules that explain the complementary distribution of the reflexes of alleged Proto-Uralic vowels *ɨ and *å in Proto-Samoyed, Proto-Mansi and Proto-Permic. Our aim is to show that the reconstruction of one vowel *a instead of these two phonemes is sufficient for the explanation of all the reflexes in the languages under consideration.

This was an impressive gathering - and special thanks go to the participants sharing their expertise on various subjects related to the materials and to tangential fields of study. As usual, the input will be used to improve the manuscript to hopefully publishable standards. Enjoy the discussion!
