Access to medical equipment is an essential component of the healthcare infrastructure. Due to the high manufacturing cost, low- and middle-income countries rely on donations from high-resource settings to meet their demand for medical equipment. International organizations such as the World Health Organization have prescribed guidelines for sustainable donations. A few research studies have assessed current donation practices' compliance with new and used medical equipment. This study aims to investigate commonly recurring challenges and compile practical recommendations for medical equipment donation programs in low- and middle-income countries. To validate the findings from the literature review, semi-structured interviews were conducted with three different types of recipients across Pakistan and Sierra Leone. There are some obstacles affecting this sustainable medical equipment donation program. These hurdles can be overcome by strict compliance with the official World Health Organization guidelines, empowering the recipient through communication and policy, establishing vital metrics, developing sustainable long-term donor-recipient relationships, and by comprehensive evaluation of the impact of all the stakeholders in the medical equipment ecosystem. The study concludes that well-established guidelines and policies are critical to successful medical equipment donation programs.

The food industry remains one of the significant sectors supporting the world economy. The continuous rapid population growth will surely increase the demand for food. Thus, it is imperative to consider the continuous improvement that will support sustainability in food manufacturing. The food industry needs to work on ensuring sustainable manufacturing implementation or integration into processes and product outputs. Hence, this paper has seen a need to assess emerging technologies and practices as the sector faces the challenges of developing and maintaining a sustainable food supply. Therefore, the entire sustainability aspect of agricultural-food production (rice production in particular), processing and integrated supply chain will need to be investigated to ensure that sustainable practices are embedded adequately within the processing supply chain. The analytical hierarchy process (AHP) approach is used in this study together with a predetermined set of key performance indicators (KPIs) to analyse the sustainability performance of the food manufacturing industry and facilitate the creation of strategy. The result identified “environmental” as the most paramount sustainability factor, with other highly ranked indicators that cover the three factors.

The purpose of this insight paper is to provide an overview of early studies implemented on examining the influence and impacts of Digitalisation in sustainable manufacturing, with the key focus towards the new Digital Supply Chain (DSC), through the implementation and adoptability of Industry 4.0 parameters within the context of sustainable manufacturing. There have been few literatures that discusses the evolution and transformation of the transformation of traditional manufacturing methods through comparisons of conceptual models and state of art reviews of digitalisation and industry 4.0 with specific focus on digitisation within supply chain processes. Through early studies within literature, it was noted that there is a gap in linking Sustainable Manufacturing practices to the new elements and actors of industry 4.0 and its wider impacts on DSC. Hence, the authors aim to explore firstly, sustainable manufacturing and the practices adopted within supply chain, with specific case of food manufacturing sectors, before finally examining the literature concerning the focus of digitalisation in manufacturing processes.

The global battle of climate change is considered paramount, and one of the potential solutions to this could be the integration of sustainable practices at every level of operations in both manufacturing and service sectors. Adoption of sustainable practices is now of high importance in every industry, and various researchers have identified and percept sustainability as what every industry could consider ensuring a better future for better environment and prosperity within most sectors. Meanwhile, consideration of these sustainable practices within significant areas like food manufacturing industry will play a big role in improving the global environmental challenges and positively impact the economic and social aspect of most nations. This study, therefore, aims to evaluate sustainable food manufacturing supply chain environment proposing a set of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) based on the triple bottom line of sustainability. The study carries out a survey seeking opinions from the experts in the industry and implements the use of common mean method to analyse and evaluate sustainability performance. The study ranks the performance by evaluating the triple bottom line of sustainability using the level of importance associated with the identified indicators of general food industry. The result identifies the top set of key performance indicators peculiar to rice manufacturing in Nigeria.

Sustainable food manufacturing and logistics is becoming popular in the face of maintaining food security and keeping a good track with the sustainable development goal. Continuous transformation within most manufacturing sectors could be very useful in maintaining a good sustainability and competitive business environment of which the food manufacturing supply chain environment is not an exception. Sustainable food manufacturing could help reduce the negative environmental and social impact to the barest minimum as the economic situation is improved thereby contributing to the success of the set Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This study presents an overview of sustainable food manufacturing supply chain environment, Continuous Transformation of Food Manufacturing and Supply Chain, Sustainability Drivers within Food Manufacturing and Supply Chain Environment. The other part shows a methodology that proposes a conceptual framework from the literatures. This conceptual framework design comprises of steps that include Orientation and Commitment, Environmental and lifecycle impact assessment, Definition and implementation and, Measurement and communication. This proposed framework is expected to help in the continuous transformation within food manufacturing supply chain environment.

The applicability of trends in industries' production, logistics and supply chain management has increased productivity, efficiency and less adverse environmental impact. Sustainability is one of the trends identified and percept by various researches as what every industry could consider ensuring a better future for the environment and prosperity in most sectors. Meanwhile, the application of different new technologies and the current digitalization is helping in achieving the said sustainability trends within the manufacturing industry. This study, therefore, aims to investigate through literatures and a case study how well integration of advanced technology has impacted sustainability and growth within food manufacturing environment. Integration of advanced technology to aid sustainability within food manufacturing and supply chain environment will be investigated through a case study in an agricultural-livestock cooperative company in Andalusia, Spain. Meanwhile, with the co...

Rapidly growing technology and a digitally focused world have opened the door for a new wave of automation to enter the work force in the industry. Industry 4.0 plays a vital role in Supply chain management (SCM) which requires constant research and improvements due to high demand to meet their global competitive markets. As part of achieving this high demands, SCM has been incorporating the latest evolving technologies by digitalizing and automating themselves to increase their financial profits and competitiveness in the market. This paper aims to have a review on Supply Chain Management (SCM) and latest technologies in Industry 4.0 revolution.

The efforts towards mitigating the effects of climate change should be more focused towards reducing CO2 and greenhouse gases emissions within the current regulations. One of the ways to achieve this is through encouraging more energy saving practices and reduction of carbon footprint within all production, commercial and service related functions within organisations. Nigeria has been identified with higher emission of greenhouse gases due to downstream gas flaring combined with rapid industrialisation, urbanisation and commercialisation activities. This research paper examines the potential impacts of energy saving within Nigerian telecoms industry, and highlights how telecoms base stations have great challenges and threats towards the climate change from the amount of energy generated within the system. The paper conducts a literature study on energy savings with key focus towards energy usage, its impacts, and concepts and towards the benefits of energy saving practices. The res...
