Apart from automated techniques, collaborative multimedia semantic annotation by people, in particular communities of domain experts, are and will be powerful contributors to multimedia semantization. Recently, we extended our LAS server towards an XMPP server, thereby enabling the real time intertwining of communication and the collaborative utilization of remote services, in particular MPEG-7 multimedia semantic annotation and retrieval services.

Practices in communities can be supported through a wide use of standard multimedia and web technologies. Lately, several research domains, especially cultural heritage management, have discovered the power of collaboration with amateurs in multimedia documentation work. Amateurs often carry knowledge they would be willing to contribute with small effort. Thus, there is a need for intuitive multimedia annotation tools supporting efficient collaboration among different user communities.

For measuring community satisfaction we propose a community success model (CSM) based on the seminal DeLone & McLean IS Success Model. CSM combines quantitative data collected through automatic monitoring of service usage with qualitative extracted from automatically generated questionnaires.

Web 2.0 and social software turn users into prosumers which results in a great amount of multimedia content and metadata for the community on the one hand. On the other hand, it asks for new concepts to develop better mobile applications for cultural heritage data management.

Thus, we propose a community success model (CSM) based on the seminal DeLone & McLean IS success model, gaming communities are part of our new media culture, entertaining people of all ages with online and video games. As a proof of concept, we apply our CSM to gaming communities. CSM was evaluated in our university lab course ldquogaming communitiesrdquo.

We present the mobile social software Virtual Campfire to provide cross-media and cross-community support for de-and recontextualization of multimedia content, employing Web Services, the MPEG-7 standard and Web 2.0 technologies etc. Virtual Campfire can enable communities to set up and maintain multimedia community information systems quickly and easily.

Whereas the idea of the story-telling remains unaltered, the world around undertakes continuous changes. New media, new technologies and devices, new ways of communication define a new format of the story-telling. This paper proposes a new non-linear version of mobile story-telling in the emerging ubiquity of knowledge sharing.

Mobile communities, with respect to their IT needs, introduce new requirements compared to traditional online web communities. On the other hand, cloud computing is emerging as computing concept that promises provision of computational resources on demand and abstraction of technical details from the clients.

The enrichment of stories using multimedia technologies has been established in knowledge sharing for professional communities since long ago. However, mobile multimedia production and consumption for storytelling raises several issues for mobile data management. We start with a requirements analysis for various application scenarios ranging from business to common life with mobile multimedia storytelling.

Web 2.0 has raised tagging functionality to a growing number of websites such as Flickr and YouTube. However, these services only provide basic video annotation support. In comparison to those well-known services there are many research efforts towards video semantization tools.

However, easy development and maintenance of device-independent mobile services are still challenging. We have developed a service-oriented framework for mobile multimedia processing based on international standards like MPEG-7. Quality of mobile service experience is constantly monitored in framework.

Professional story tellers use complex tools and templates since the early days of humankind. For example, Joseph Campbell's monomyth “The Hero's Journey” has been a successful story stereotype for many Hollywood blockbusters. However, Web 2.0 depends on user generated content with questionable quality sometimes. So the “amateur” Web 2.0 multimedia producers still need simple support to tell good stories. This paper proposes the application of `professional' story templates to enhance (nonlinear) digital storytelling. A template engines allows design, adaptation and mashing up of story templates. A prototype of the template engine YouTell TE was integrated in the collaborative storytelling platform. A set of case studies including mobile multimedia gaming support, mobile storytelling, and context-aware story checking shows the usefulness of the approach.

The foundation of cloud computing is the delivery of services, software and processing capacity over the Internet, reducing cost, increasing storage, automating systems, decoupling of service delivery from underlying technology, and providing flexibility and mobility of information. However, the actual realization of these benefits is far from being achieved
