An archaeological excavation was carried out in the cadastral area of the village of Pohranice in 2017-2020. Regarding the extent of construction, its area was divided into sections A-F. The article focuses on evaluation of settlement of the Lengyel culture in section D, where the highest concentration of features was detected. Archaeological contexts occurred as independent clusters of features consisting mostly of claypits and pits with unknown functions. Their fill contained finds of pottery, miniature artifacts, animal bones and daub. The fragmentary state of the assemblage does not allow to specify chronological position of individual features. There were elements typical of the Late Eneolithic Lengyel as well as Epi-Lengyel cultural development. It can be assumed that the chronological span of these settlement areas reached from the end of the Neolithic (Brodzany Group) to the beginning of the Aeneolithic (early stage of the Ludanice Group).

This paper focuses on the evaluation of the Aeneolithic Period finds from Buková obtained during research of the burial mounds cemetery from the Middle Bronze Age. In several mounds ceramic material, semi-finished products and stone tools were found. Under the mound V/59 was examined disturbed object 1 from Aeneolithic Period, probably a remnant of a dome-shaped hearth which contains many ceramic fragments. In the paper there are also evaluated several incidental findings. Based on their dating it is possible to expect a prehistoric occupation of Buková in the Neolithic Period, as well as in the older and younger Aeneolithic Period.

1. Vysoká pri Morave (Malacky district), Dúbrava site, settlement, rescue excavation, Late Bronze Age. Finds deposited at: Archeologický ústav SAV, v. v. i., Nitra.
The rescue excavation on the course of the gas pipeline in 2016 studied two settlements from the Bronze Age and LaTène period. In the urban area of Vysoká pri Morave, a settlement from the older phase of the Late Bronze Age, stage BD, was unncovered at Dúbrava site. Three well distinguishable groundplans of above-ground stake structures were identified.
2. Záhorská Ves (Malacky district), Lopaty site, settlement, rescue excavation, Late Bronze Age. Finds deposited at: Archeologický ústav SAV, v. v. i., Nitra.
The second studied settlement in the urban area of Záhorská Ves is located on an indistinct dune in the inundation area apprx. 130 m further to the northwest. Undatable fragmentary material comes from considerably damaged stakeholes. Several sherds dated to the LaTène period come from the studied storage pit.

– 13. Jh. Aus dem Ackerboden stammen neuzeitliche Funde.

From partially damaged Feature 1 comes large number of ceramic fragments, clay and stone objects, and also human and animal bones. In the profile of excavation pit was identified a smaller Feature 2, which besides ceramic fragments contained a piece of slag. Stratigraphic observations indicate that this location was used to settle only during the Early Bronze Age and then was repeatedly flooded with the Nitra River until modern times.

Besides widely dated and common artifacts, some finds complementing and extending our knowledge of this settlement occured. On the basis of their analysis, settlement at this site can be documented from the early to the end of the late Bronze Age. The article points to the importance of metal detector surveys at sites from the Bronze Age, since no other bronze artifacts – with one exception – come from the studied features.

Age. Most of the explored objects were post/column pits, in one case there appeared a storage pit, seven objects are
representing not specified settlement pits. Fragmental findings from partially damaged post/column pits allows dating
of this settlement to the older phase of the Middle-Danube Urnfield culture. It was possible to identify at least three
ground planes of above-ground buildings, which, because of their size, were likely to be used as residential units. Their
disposition is similar to other well-known buildings on the Late Bronze Age settlements in the Middle Danube area.
Due to its atypical localization in the flood plain, this settlement represents a significant contribution to the settlement
strategies of the Late Bronze Age.

Tumuli showing certain anomalies in theirs usually regular groundplans and/or profiles or interferences in their stone cores have been investigated in the wider territory of central Europe. We can distinguish two types of such interferences. First one is embanked material on the part of a tumulus above the secondary burial. Such tumuli appear in Buková, Čeložnica and Pitten. The second type is repeated addition of new layers above the secondary burial which caused enlargement of the tumulus. With regard to the bad condition of remains and insufficient documentation, they can be definitely proved only in Pitten. Both above mentioned types of tumulus embankment occur as early as the beginning of the middle Bronze Age in Pitten. As for the territory of Moravia and Slovakia, they can be observed in the late periods of the middle Bronze Age. Numerous analogies, mainly from the Czech Republic, suggest their frequent use in the whole territory of tumulus cultures and this habit continues in the late Bronze Age. Several burials in tumuli show planned pair deposits. Contemporarity or close chronological sequence of depositing of burials connected with adjustments of the embankment can thus represent a certain form of pair burials.

A polycultural settlement has been documented, represented by finds from the Middle Eneolithic, Early Bronze Age, Late Bronze Age, Late Hallstatt Period, Late Middle Ages, Early Modern Period as well as from the 20th century. The excavation of the foundation trenches of two houses, carried out during this year, has increased the knowledge of the settlement of the area in the Bronze Age, the Modern Period and the 20th century. The total number of objects examined in 2019 and 2022 is 131. It is worth noting that the currently recovered ceramic finds from the Late Bronze Age, due to their specific features (edging and traces of surface solidification), belong to the cultural framework of the Middle-Danube Urnfield culture.
