Elena Cardona
Photographer, poet, professor and researcher. Doctor in Spanish (Hispanic Studies - University of California, Riverside). Magister Scientiarum in Literary Studies (Central University of Venezuela). Her areas of study include Visual Semiotics, Philosophy, and Art-Based Critical Pedagogies, with an emphasis on photography, poetry, performance, contemporary culture, digital media, and Latin America. Her dissertation Photopoetics of Migrant Memories: Archive, Body and Listening in Venezuelan Women Photographers, supported by the College of Humanities, Arts & Social Sciences and the Center for Ideas & Society at the University of California at Riverside, explores the role of photography, the poetic image and the Digital media in the performativity of memory in contexts of forced migration, exile and traumatic violence. From photopoetic experimentation, this project extends into the series measures of distance [medidas de la distancia], a transmedial exploration that integrates digital and printed collages, video poems and soundscapes.
