The Battlestars comic and story pages
The Battlestars were first organized by Autobot Supreme Commander Dai Atlas to counter the approaching threat of Decepticon Emperor Dark Nova. Dai Atlas inaugurated Sky Garry as temporary Supreme Commander and charged him with the task of resurrecting Optimus Prime via the Zodiac, as he believed Prime was the only one capable of stopping the new menace. Sky Garry and Grandus then took a rookie into the group, the youthful Sixliner, after he fought off several Galaman drones that were plundering Earth's energy. The Battlestars Part 2
To thwart the Battlestars, Dark Nova stole the body of Optimus Prime and cloned it as False Convoy. Luckily, Grandus and his Micromaster partner, Spinner, were able to stop False Convoy. The Battlestars Part 3 The Battlestars then rescued the body of Prime from the Decepticon planet Lucifer and brought him back to life as Star Convoy. The Battlestars Part 4
Star Convoy and Sixliner then faced down a horde of Great Novaroid drones, proving triumphant with the help of Star Convoy's Microcarrier. The Battlestars Part 5
Not through yet, Dark Nova resurrected Galvatron as Super Megatron. The Battlestars Part 6 While Sky Garry and Grandus were stuck in space, cleaning up the remaining Decepticons on planet Lucifer, Star Convoy and Sixliner faced down Super Megatron at the North Pole. After a fierce battle, they drove Super Megatron from Earth. The Battlestars special
They then fought Super Megatron and the Great Galaman warriors out in space. Star Convoy, Sky Garry and Grandus combined into the Battlestar Attack and shot Super Megatron to pieces. The Battlestars Part 7 Dark Nova then revealed himself to his foes and upgraded Super Megatron into Ultra Megatron. The Battlestars Part 8
Following that, Dark Nova combined with Ultra Megatron into the Star Giant and attacked. The Battlestars Part 9 The Battlestars could not defeat the Star Giant from without, so they traveled inside its body and tore it apart from within. They escaped just as Star Giant exploded. Legends comic
Roller acted like a vigil over Optimus Prime's body after his recent death in 2021, and that for a decade. One day, he received the news from Dai Atlas had recovered the Zodiac, an energy source capable of reviving the deceased Autobot leader. Unfortunately, it was at that moment that a strange golden capsule appeared, injuring Roller and abducting Optimus Prime. Feeling responsible for the loss of his former partner, Roller joined the Battlestars to help track him down. The team subsequently located Prime's body on the fortified Decepticon planet of Lucifer, and during their battle with Novaroid and Galaman drones, Roller sacrificed his life by drawing fire so that the other Battlestars could complete the mission.
With Optimus Prime's body secured, the Battlestars placed it alongside Roller's own remains, hoping that the Zodiac could restore both partners to life. Their efforts succeeded, with the Zodiac's energies upgrading Roller into the Micro Carrier, able to combine with Optimus Prime to form Star Convoy. LG-EX Big Powered Prologue Part Two

Notes
- Early story treatments for the 1991 post-Zone storyline saw the Battlestars led by the new character "Big Bang," a successor to Dai Atlas, against the forces of Dark Nova (or possibly Unicron, who was shown as the line's villain in early production sketches). Big Bang was discarded in favor of the Return of Convoy angle, replacing him in the Battlestars' ranks with the titular Star Convoy.
