Dawn of Destruction!

Synopsis

Cyclonus crashes on the moon, where the Destruction Mini-Con Team find him, and decide that it's time for a little payback for the Decepticons. Meanwhile, Megatron is moping about the loss of his new base and his Mini-Con captives, and takes his frustration out on Demolishor. Suddenly, Cyclonus shows up and opens fire on the Decepticons' headquarters.

It turns out that the Destruction Team have power-linked with Cyclonus, and is controlling his actions. Megatron and Demolishor grab their own Mini-Cons and attack the possessed Cyclonus, who manages to hold his own against both of them. The battle ends when Starscream shows up with an experimental sonic destabiliser designed to sever power-links. Cut off from their host, the Destruction Team retreat to their hideout elsewhere on the moon. A while later, Starscream contacts the team and offers them a deal...

Counter-Strike!

Synopsis

Millions of years in the past, the Decepticons are ravaging Mini-Con villages and capturing their inhabitants for their own use. Dualor assembles a number of Mini-Cons at the Mini-Con Emergency Bunker and presents them with a plan: they will use "leaked" false information to lure Megatron to the Autobot headquarters, where they have planted explosives to take out the Decepticon leader and hopefully end the war. The Mini-Cons cheer for the plan... with the exception of Sparkplug.

Some time later, the Decepticons attack Autobot Command HQ, while Dualor's team plant magno-web charges in the area. Sparkplug is still opposed to the plan, and tells Mirage that sacrificing the Autobots to kill Megatron just isn't right. As the Decepticons close in on the explosives, Sparkplug can't take it anymore and warns Optimus Prime, who pulls his troops out of the area. Megatron turns to follow, and the sudden explosion fails to harm him. Dualor is furious, and promises that whoever warned the Autobots will "wish they'd never been formatted!"

Featured Characters

(Numbers indicate order of appearance.)

Quotes

  • "I don't buy Dualor's claim that they're as bad as each other. I... believe in Optimus Prime!"
Sparkplug doesn't believe in Dualor's scheme.

Errors

  • Smokescreen is seen firing his Mini-con activated crane cannon defending the base, but his partner Liftor is among the group happy to see him blown sky high.

Items of note

  • Mirage is explicitly shown being experimented on by the Decepticons while also being a player in the events of the attack on the Autobot base, implying he escaped their clutches. However, he isn't one of the group shown cheering on Dualor's scheme and is more sympathetic to Sparkplug's moral dilemma.

Starscream's Hate Mail!

  • "Who on Earth is UNICRON? Doesn't look like much to me,"
- Starscream responds to a piece of reader art.

Notes

  • While the issue is cover dated December 31st 2003, it actually went on sale on December 4th.
