The digital cultural heritage is partly preserved through web archiving activities. The BlogForever platform is a web archiving platform that aims specifically at the preservation of the blogosphere. The focus enables exploitation of the blog structure for sophisticated access capabilities on archived data. However, interoperability among BlogForever archives, as well as with other digital libraries, is necessary in order to avoid silos of data. In this paper, we reveal some of our efforts to establish interoperability through the application of Linked Open Data.

Abstract Blogging has often been described as writing an online diary but, nowadays, it is more diverse and a considerable amount of blogs form a common interconnected resource-the blogosphere-with comprehensive societal impact. While various studies have inquired social-psychological influences on the intention to contribute to an individual blog, the perceptions related to creating such a common valuable good have not yet been focussed.

The quest for identifying 'significant properties' is a common challenge for the digital preservation community. While the methodological frameworks for selecting these properties provide a good foundation, a continued discussion is necessary for further clarifying and improving the available methods. This paper advances earlier work by building on the existing InSPECT framework and improving its capabilities of working with complex/compound objects like blogs.

Abstract Understanding and structuring the use of social software by scientists is of high importance in modern research and education–new ways of cooperation and knowledge sharing leads to new ways of work for researchers in both, higher education and enterprises. The possibilities of social networking services provides means for open discourse and offers easier ways to make scientific and educational resources available to the knowledge community.

The interoperability of web archives and digital libraries is crucial to avoid silos of preserved data and content. While various researches focus on specific facets of the challenge to interoperate, there is a lack of empirical work about the overall situation of actual challenges. We conduct a Delphi study to survey and reveal the insights of experts in the field. Results of our study are presented in this paper to enhance further research and development efforts for interoperability.

Abstract: Self-organised collaborative wiki work is reality in today's businesses and students have to be prepared for the resulting requirements. Therefore, the aim of our paper is to demonstrate and to evaluate a way to practice self-organised and loosely coordinated wiki work in higher education. We simulate a common enterprise 2.0 collaboration situation to convey competences in a graduate-level classroom and identify challenges in this context following action research principles.

Scientific research is a process that produces new scientific findings with the use of existing scientific knowledge and experiences. The main production factor in this process is the knowledge of the involved scientists. The speed of knowledge development and production has increased extremely with the use of new communication technologies and the new ways of information exchange. The invention of the letterpress enabled an easy worldwide dissemination of scientific findings via publications.

Abstract: This report specifies requirements for the BlogForever archive and preservation system. Therefore, requirements descriptions are assembled from several sources like the description of work and former deliverables. Additionally, 26 semi-structured interviews were conducted to identify additional requirements as well as to validate the already described requirements. The report illustrates the method of interview conduction and qualitative analysis. It includes a description of relevant stakeholders and requirement categories.

Abstract: This report outlines a principal study aiming to inform the development of preservation and dissemination solutions for blogs. To achieve this, the study encompassed:[i] a user survey exploring the aspects of blog preservation and blogging practices in general;[ii] an investigation into the use of tools and technologies within the Blogosphere; and finally [iii] an inquiry into the recent theoretical and technological advances for analysing blogs and their networks.

Abstract Traditionally, academic researchers have been using platforms such as conferences, academic journals and books to present their findings and engage in academic discourse with their peers. The development of Information and Communication Technologies provides researchers not only with new tools, but also with new means of interaction. Among the new platforms are also weblogs (blogs). Formerly defined asonline logbooks', blogs can be used for a variety of purposes.

Web 2.0 and social software have long since reached research. Existing examples and even studies show, that researchers use social software during the research process. However, the ways social software can be used to support research work are still not sufficiently explored. In this paper, we suggest that this question can be addresses systematically by means of a simple exploration framework. We base the framework on the research process and the activities connected to it.

Abstract. Internationalization and globalization competences play a major role for graduates and employees in IS related enterprises. In contrast to other disciplines such as Business or Economics, the IS discipline rarely addresses this competence area. In the paper, we identify generic competence areas: coordination, communication, and cooperation. We derive domain specific competences for the field of E-Learning in Higher Education.

In a knowledge society it is crucial to serve the need for accurate and up-to- date knowledge produced by scientists. The possibilities of electronic communication through the use of social software provides means for open discourse and offers easier ways to make scientific and educational resources available that can be used in knowl- edge management and e-learning. Within this paper, we describe how researchers share knowledge in the form of artefacts. These artefacts consist of open science and open educational resources. The focus will be on understanding the influence factors for sharing these artefacts with social networking services. Through the research, an improved understanding of the decision making and sharing habits of a researcher will be obtained for the use of social software for globally distributed and open scientific communication.
