The book here proposed draws on the expertise of experienced interpreters, the setting of the Escuela de Traductores de Toledo, and the contextual specificities, such as the privileged position Maghreb/Spain in the relations between the Arab world and Europe, as well as a number of topics that are common in the professional interpreting practice in international organizations such as the European Union or the United Nations, the World Bank, etc. It is welcome that the authors have focused also in the ideological circumstances of interpreting in especially sensitive socio-political contexts -in this sense, this is a pioneering book-. Issues of colonialism or neo-colonialism, the potentially controversial aspects of pragmatic interpreting (implicatures and cultural referents), the often-evasive neutrality of the interpreter, conflicts of allegiances, etc., are worthy of attention, all the more so when Arabic isinvolved, a language whose cultures are at the centre of global geopolitical interests and, sadly, also at the centre of some of the most conspicuous recent conflicts -in this sense, it is remarkable the book’s attention to questions of emigration and the needs of refugee mediation.
