While previous research has primarily focused on wheel-thrown ceramics indicative of the new technological advancements and trade networks implemented after the Phoenician arrival, handmade ceramics have been somewhat overlooked despite their prevalence in the Early Iron Age (EIA) contexts. Our study, based on the analysis of 36 individuals from recent excavations at La Fonteta, sheds light on the technological aspects (temper choice and estimated firing temperature) and mobility patterns associated with handmade ceramics in this context. Contrary to previous assumptions, our findings indicate that handmade ceramics played a crucial role in regional and broader exchange systems, possibly with limited ties to wheel-thrown ceramics. Moreover, regional mobility seems to have been prominent, likely stemming from local networks and technological frameworks established during the preceding Late Bronze Age (LBA) period.

Abstract
The aim of this paper is showing the urban layout of the late phase II of the Phoenician site of Teatro Cómico (Cádiz), analyzing the building materials used in his construction, the organization of its several domestic units (houses) and the street layout. The stratigraphic explorations carried out under the floors of this phase are also
published for first time in which several floors and an assemblage of Phoenician and local pottery were attested. Finally the foundation of Gadir and the interaction of the several Phoenicians sites during the IX-VIII centuries in the Bay of Cadiz are dealt briefly with.

However the Middle East underwent a secondary agricultural revolution during the 5th−3rd millennia bc resulting in major advances in fruit growing (Zohary and Spiegel-Roy 1975; Zohary et al. 2012; Abbo et al. 2015; Weiss 2015). This development was often linked to complex social transformations resulting in the beginning of cities and trade in agricultural products (McCorriston 2009; Marston 2017; Fuller and Stevens 2019). Phoenician and Greek colonial enclaves began to appear in the western Mediterranean at the beginning of the 1st millennium cal bc, dotting the coastlines of North Africa, southern Italy, Sicily, Sardinia and Iberia before moving up to the south of France. The Phoenicians and Greeks, who were in contact with the various indigenous communities (Dietler 2010; van Dommelen 2012; Broodbank 2013), acted as agents in introducing a new way of farming which brought iron agricultural tools and new plants such as fruit trees with delayed yields, meaning that they could only be harvested after a number of years. However, the current view of this change is certainly distorted, as it is mostly based on archaeobotanical evidence from indigenous settlements Communicated by F. Antolín.

This involved the rapid deployment on the shores of Southern and Southeastern Iberia of these new fortification systems, which soon spread across throughout the entire Near Eastern influenced territory of the peninsula. The wall of La Fonteta, built around 600 BC., presents characteristic elements of a Near Eastern construction, such as the use of solid caissons adjusted to established metric parameters, the presence of quadrangular towers, or the employment of stone masonry and elevations of mudbricks and earth, topped with battlements. In addition, attached sloped walls, a ramp or glacis and a 'V'shaped ditch have been identified, some of these features undoubtedly of Near Eastern origin, but others of clear indigenous influence.

The macrovertebrate zooarchaeological analyses carried out at the Phoenician site of Teatro Cómic... more The macrovertebrate zooarchaeological analyses carried out at the Phoenician site of Teatro Cómico (Cádiz) show a predominance of mixed herds of sheep and goat. The patterns derived from the study of the mortality profiles seem to suggest the importance of wool and milk production. In addition to sheep and goat, we have also documented the presence of bovids, suids, equids, dogs, and cats. Animal remains can provide further information about the socio-economic activities taking place at the site. The scarce number of remains from wild species, such as deer, suggests that the exploitation of wild resources was rather limited. Lastly, it is also worth highlighting the presence of Hexaplex trunculus, used in the production of purple dye. Together, the evidence presented in this paper indicates that secondary products had an important socio-economic role at the Teatro Cómico site, and that both trading and production were important economic dimensions of the Phoenician world.
