G. Alvarado
Guillermo E. Alvarado Induni es costarricense de nacimiento, naturalizado suizo. Obtuvo su bachillerato, licenciatura (mención honorífica) y maestría en Geología en la Universidad de Costa Rica; mientras que su doctorado (summa cum laude) lo realizó en la Universidad Christian Albrecht de Kiel. Ha sido profesor de Geología en la Universidad de Costa Rica en diversos cursos de bachillerato, licenciatura y maestría, en la Escuela de Historia y Geografía (1985-1989), la Escuela de Geología (1994-2011, 2016-presente) y la Escuela de Antropología y Sociología (2003-2004, 2006), así como en el curso compacto de Vulcanología en la Universidad de Salta (1997-2001, 2003, Argentina), en la Universidad Tecnológica del Cibao Oriental (2012 y 2014) en Cotui (República Dominicana), en la Universidad Central de Costa Rica (2015-presente). Es autor y coautor de 65 artículos en revistas extranjeras indexadas en el exterior y de 90 artículos en revistas nacionales indexadas, además de 27 publicaciones en libros y de 220 resúmenes en congresos. Tiene en su haber 8 libros, en total, su actividad científica suma más de 185 publicaciones indexadas. La mayoría de sus investigaciones se han enfocado en la geología de América Central, aunque posee investigaciones acerca de Argentina, Ecuador y República Dominicana. Su trabajo ha abarcado casi todos los campos de las ciencias geológicas, pero se ha enfocado en los volcanes y las rocas ígneas, así como los peligros geológicos, la geología del Cuaternario y la historia de la Geología. La mayor parte de su labor profesional la ha realizado en los proyectos hidroeléctricos y geotérmicos, que ha investigado y desarrollado el Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) desde su ingreso en 1984. Ha colaborado desde 1987 con la Comisión Nacional de Prevención de Riesgos y Atención de Emergencias (CNE), donde labora desde setiembre de 2018. Además, es miembro de la International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth’s Interior (IAVCEI) y miembro fundador de la Asociación Latinoamericana de Volcanología (ALVO), entre otras representaciones. Forma parte de la Red Sismológica Nacional (RSN: UCR-ICE) desde su establecimiento en 1982 hasta el 2019. Es miembro de la Academia Nacional de Ciencias y de la Academia de Historia y Geografía. Ha recibido reconocimientos por parte de la Universidad de Costa Rica (2003, 2010, 2012) y por el Colegio de Geólogos de Costa Rica en 1997, entre ellos el “Premio Geológico Nacional” 2009.
