ABSTRACT Development of simulation models allows performance analysis of multi-echelon inventory networks, and this part of supply chain is not well-established research area. Moreover, by encapsulating all major characteristics of multi-echelon system, the simulation modeling does not allow only its study, but also it provides the means to achieve the desired system performance. This paper deals with a multi-echelon distribution inventory system made of suppliers, distributors and retailers. The retailer faces stochastic demands placed by customers and replenishing from its distributor, which in turn procures from its supplier at the upstream of the chain. The main purpose of this simulation model is to analyze the multi-echelon distribution system behavior according some key performance metrics such as cost and backorder, as well as customer service level at each echelon.

Nous nous intéressons dans cet article à la résolution des problèmes opérationnels de pilotage de flux et de gestion de stock, liés au système de distribution multi-échelon. Afin de cerner et analyser ce type de système complexe et dynamique, la modélisation s’avère une étape essentielle. A ce propos, nous avons développé un modèle UML global qui vise l'étude des différentes configurations en matière de distribution multi-échelon, en vue de réaliser un outil de simulation. Cependant, le développement d’un modèle de simulation pour ce type de système est une tâche difficile. Cette difficulté se manifeste d’une part dans le choix du système de pilotage (centralisé, décentralisé), et de la politique de pilotage de flux (suivi continu, suivi périodique), etc. D’autre part, elle se manifeste aux contextes stochastiques et dynamiques dont le système est soumis (demande, capacité, délai d’approvisionnement, etc). L’objectif de ce papier est de présenter un modèle de simulation global pour les Chaînes Logistiques de Distribution Multi-Echelon (CLDME), cependant nous nous intéressant uniquement au niveau opérationnel de la pyramide de décision à savoir le pilotage de flux et la gestion de stock. L’interaction permanente entre les différentes entités de la CLDME et la complexité croissante de ce type de système, nécessite la conception d’un modèle de simulation permettant d’une part d'intégrer l’ensemble de caractéristiques dynamiques et aspects stochastiques dont le système peut être soumis, et d’autre part s’adapter à différentes configurations du réseau multi-échelon. Pour atteindre cet objectif, nous avons développé un modèle conceptuel à l’aide du diagramme de flot qui sera par la suite implémenté grâce au logiciel de simulation ARENA.

Dans une chaîne logistique de distribution multi-échelon, plusieurs centres de décisions interagissent pour augmenter la performance de la chaîne. Dans un tel contexte, deux architectures de pilotage divergent dans la manière d’offrir à la chaîne logistique la meilleure aptitude à répondre à la demande du marché, à savoir l’architecture décentralisée ou centralisée. Face à ce constat, ce travail a pour objectif la mise en oeuvre d’un modèle de simulation à l’aide d’UML permettant la coexistence des deux approches (centralisées et décentralisées) dans un seul modèle. D’après les apports respectifs des deux systèmes de pilotage, nous pouvons donc assurer un couplage et un bon équilibre conjuguant leurs avantages respectifs. The Multi-Echelon Distribution Supply Chain (MEDSC) is a multifaceted structure, focusing on the integration of all factors that involved in the overall distribution process of finished products to the customers. The growing interest in multi-echelon distribution systems has highlighted the need to adopt an appropriate approach to ensure the efficient management of their complexity. While there is a significant amount of analytical research modeling the MEDSC, few studies have used simulation models for this system. The objective of the paper is to model the operational level of the MEDSC network and to obtain a real reflection of its behavior. Le domaine des chaines logistiques de distribution multi-échelon est un champ d’étude vaste, et ceci est dû à sa complexité. Cette complexité est liée d’une part au système de pilotage de ce type de chaîne qui peut être centralisé (un décideur central cherche l’optimum global) ou décentraliser (chaque site de la chaîne cherche son optimum local). D’autre part, au nombre important de caractéristiques et d’hypothèses qu’il faut prendre en considération pour établir un modèle. Cependant, dans cet article nous allons établir un état d’art sur les modèles analytiques et les modèles de simulation des systèmes de distribution multi-échelon. Plus précisément, nous essayons à l’aide de cette revue de littérature de relever les différents aspects et caractéristiques qui pourront faire objet d’un modèle générique d’un système de distribution multi-échelon et aussi d’identifier les avantages et les limites de chacune des deux approches de modélisation.

Inventory management is a challenging problem area in supply chain management and companies need to have inventories in warehouses in order to satisfy customer's needs. Meanwhile, these inventories have holding costs and this is a frozen fund that can be lost. Today, very small businesses (VSBs) play a very important role worldwide due to their great employability and strong presence in the economic fabric. Hence, VSB should introduce an organisation system to improve both quality and productivity continuously. Organizations around the globe are opting for implementing Lean manufacturing to eliminate wastes and increase productivity. This research paper aims to promote lean thinking through studying the readiness of VSBs to adopt the lean manufacturing philosophy.
