Regarding the requisite role of EFL learners' native culture alongside the target culture in ... more Regarding the requisite role of EFL learners' native culture alongside the target culture in TEFL in the globalization era, the present paper discusses the advantages of teaching EFL learners' national and local culture through local literature in TEFL and then elaborates on the potentiality of teaching Iranian-Islamic culture through Persian Literature in Iranian TEFL. Consequently, among many invaluable works of Persian Literature, Shahnameh and Masnavi are introduced as rich sources of Iranian-Islamic culture which can be employed in TEFL in Iran. Including the deep teachings of these two prominent works of Persian Literature in TEFL in Iran is one of the effective ways through which the Iranian-Islamic moral principles and attitudes can be fostered in EFL learners and the sublime messages of Ferdowsi and Mowlana can be passed down to the generations. Literature as a powerful pedagogic instrument has been long used in language teaching. Teaching E... more Literature as a powerful pedagogic instrument has been long used in language teaching. Teaching English through learners' native literature as a vehicle of thoughts and ideas can provide cultural content appropriate for the local context. Persian Literature involving Iranian culture, values and ideologies can be employed as a potent source in EFL classrooms in Iran. Using Persian Literature in Iranian TEFL context not only protects EFL learners against cultural and linguistic imperialism but also fosters national culture, values and ideologies in these learners. Additionally, cooperation of the experts in two fields of TEFL and Persian Literature can be of mutual benefit to the both fields. The present paper discusses the advantages of using literature in ELT generally and Persian Literature in Iranian ELT particularly and then elaborates on the reasons why incorporation of Persian Literature into ELT is a necessity for the present status of TEFL in Iran. The results would be beneficial not only to those who are concerned with foreign language teaching and learning such as EFL teachers / learners, textbook / curriculum writers, and syllabus designers but also to those who are specialists or interested in the fields of literature, culture and humanism.
استفاده از آثار ادبی و خصوصاً داستان در آموزش زبان انگلیسی، نتایج مثبت فراوانی به ارمغان می آورد.... more استفاده از آثار ادبی و خصوصاً داستان در آموزش زبان انگلیسی، نتایج مثبت فراوانی به ارمغان می آورد. مقاله حاضر ضمن مطرح کردن مزایای بهکارگیری داستانها و حکایات موجود در ادبیات فارسی در امر آموزش زبان انگلیسی در ایران، نظر زبانآموزان ایرانی را در این زمینه مورد تحلیل قرار میدهد. نتایج به دست آمده نشان میدهد که استفاده از داستانهای کهن فارسی در آموزش زبان انگلیسی در ایران باعث ایجاد انگیزه و علاقمندی زبانآموزان ایرانی به ادبیات فارسی میگردد و همچنین هویت ملی را در آنان تقویت مینماید. نتایج همچنین نشان میدهد که در آموزش زبان انگلیسی در ایران، بهکارگیری داستان عموماً و داستانهای فارسی خصوصاً مورد کم توجهی واقع شدهاند علیرغم اینکه زبانآموزان ایرانی نسبت به داستان و داستانهای برگرفته از ادب فارسی دیدگاهی مثبت دارند.
