However, most of our knowledge of the Mexican ant biota is limited to a few well-studied taxa, and we lack a comprehensive synthesis of ant biodiversity information. For instance, most of the knowledge available in the literature on Mexican12 ant fauna refers only to species lists by states, or is focused on only a few regions of the country, which prevents the study of several basic and applied aspects of ants, from diversity and distribution to conservation. Our aims in this data paper are therefore to (i) compile all the information available regarding ants across the Mexican territory, and (ii)identify major patterns in the gathered dataset and geographic gaps in order to direct future sampling efforts. All records were obtained from raw data, including both unpublished and published information. After exhaustive filtering and updating information and synonyms, we compiled a total of 21,731 records for 887 ant species distributed throughout Mexico from 1894 to 2018. These records were concentrated mainly in the states of Chiapas (n= 6,902, 32.76%) and Veracruz de Ignacio de la Llave (n= 4,329, 19.92%), which together comprise half the records. The subfamily with the highest number of records was Myrmicinae (n=10,458 records, 48.12%), followed by Formicinae (n= 3,284, 15.11%) and Ponerinae (n= 1,914, 8.8%). Most ant records were collected in the Neotropical region of the country (n= 12,646, 58.19%), followed by the Mexican transition zone (n= 5,237, 24.09%) and the Nearctic region (n= 3,848, 17.72%). Native species comprised 95.46% of the records (n= 20,745). To the best of our knowledge, this is the most complete data set available to date in the literature for the country. We hope that this compilation will encourage researchers to explore different aspects of the population and community research of ants at different spatial scales, and to aid in the establishment of conservation policies and actions.
ABSTRACT. The myrmecofauna in some regions of Mexico have been scarce, whereby state and local studies continue to rise, mainly in places inside of the country with a high biodiversity and a great variety of ecosystems. Here we list some ant species captured ocasionally at two sites of Santa María Huatulco, Oaxaca. We collected 107 ants grouped into five subfamilies, ten genera and 16 species, nine species were the first record for the munipality while Solenopsis xyloni, Tetramorium caldarium and T. lanuginosum are listed for the first time in Oaxaca state. The last two ant species listed as well as Paratrechina longicornis, are introduced ants in México, although so far they do not present a threat like invasive species.

The Myrmecofauna (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) of the State Park, Sierra de Guadalupe, Coacalco, State of Mexico. Abstract. Ants are an important group of insects in terrestrial ecosystems due to their diversity and abundance. In the State of Mexico, there are few studies conducted in relation to the Formicidae family, while Sierra de Guadalupe does not have this type of information, despite it faces a continuous environmental pressure due to its proximity to the urban area. With derived information of this type of studies can be planned a better management of natural areas because ants respond quickly to environmental changes, for this reason the objective of this study is to contribute with data such as species richness, abundance and equitability of ants through material recovered from necrotraps (NTP-80) placed for a year. Among the results obtained there are 6 first records of ants for the Sierra de Guadalupe and the first (Temnothorax andrei) for the State of Mexico. Regarding the abundance Camponotus atriceps, species that had the highest value, is often associated with the disturbance of sites, so it could be revealing part of the pressures facing the Sierra de Guadalupe. Key words: Temnothorax andrei, First record, NTP-80, Species richness, Equitability.

ABSTRACT. We list ants of an oak forest in Chapa de Mota, captured monthly with NTP-80 traps, from August 2014 to July 2015. We collected 394 organisms grouped into two subfamilies, five genera and five morphospecies. Myrmicinae had the highest richness with three morphospecies. Formicinae was the most abundant of which Camponotus sp., recorded 85% of organisms. A low richness was obtained in December and low abundance in January, which is explained by the low temperatures of this season of the year that limit the capacity of the ants to obtain resources. The greatest richness and abundance was obtained in August-September, perhaps due to the high productivity of fruits and seeds that are collected by the ants during the rainy months. The species richness is low compared to other studies carried out in temperate forest where fall traps are used, possibly the trap bait drove away other species present in the study area, however, the accumulation curve with the Chao2 estimator suggests that 100% of the expected carrion ants were obtained. The highest diversity index was obtained in March, while in December, May and June the values were significantly lower (P < 0.05).

The neotropical swollen-thorn acacias represent a suitable group to study diversity of ants, which was the aim of the present work. We analyze the ant’s diversity in two populations, Los Tuxtlas, Veracruz and Santiago Pinotepa Nacional, Oaxaca. The results show a lower richness in Los Tuxtlas, where only three species of ants were observed, from which only one belongs to the mutualistic group. In contrast, the greatest richness was found in Santiago Pinotepa Nacional, Oaxaca, with a total of seven species, although only two of which are from the mutualistic group. In general, different from those reported previously, we found a higher incidence of non-mutualistic ants on myrmecophilous acacias in both study sites, despite the patrolling of mutualistic ants.

In general, different from those reported previously, we found a higher incidence of non-mutualistic ants on myrmecophilous acacias in both study sites, despite the patrolling of mutualistic ants.

(n= 4,329, 19.92%), which together comprise half the records. The subfamily with the highest number of records was Myrmicinae (n=10,458 records, 48.12%), followed by Formicinae (n= 3,284, 15.11%) and Ponerinae (n= 1,914, 8.8%). Most ant records were collected in the Neotropical region of the country (n= 12,646, 58.19%), followed by the
Mexican transition zone (n= 5,237, 24.09%) and the Nearctic region (n= 3,848, 17.72%).
