I am Associate Professor of Philosophy of Language at the University of Cagliari, where I teach different courses about languages, communication, writing. My research interests include cognitive semantics and natural language processing, with a focus on metaphors and other non-literal usages of language in all the mental processes that are involved in communication and comprehension. I participated to national and international projects and events on the topics of cognitive semantics and natural language processing, and I published several papers and books, among which the book Metafora e mente meccanica (Metaphor and the mechanical mind).I leaded an e-learning degree program in Communication Sciences and I direct two editions of the academic master on "Management of communication product and services". I'm the scientific referent of two projects: LITTERA, about poetry and Augmented reality Address: Tertenìa, Sardegna, Italy

Using technology in the classroom is a winning strategy in order to improve the engagement of students and then, in the end, their performances. And using coding tools based on the metaphor of building blocks is an even better alternative to support education at school in all subjects and to improve the engagement and the performances of the students. But this requires to both students and teachers to spend a non-negligible amount of time on each new topic. However, when we take into account all the steps that are necessary to create a multimedia interactive app that is helpful to better understand a given school topic, acquiring all the necessary elements can be done in a short time if we start from the right tools. A computational pedagogy based on the active usage of tools that allow to solve problems by means of computer programming is within our reach.

Then we will advocate the need for a richer lexicon in MT processes and sketch a methodology to obtain it through a mix of corpus-based and machine learning approaches.

During the crisis generated by Covid-19 this has become even more evident. In this paper we will explore some case study of social media communication in ten Italian Health Public Hospitals and Authorities, exploring them in the light of some key perspectives related to four dimensions related to space, time, relational-ity, digital communities and two objectives of public institutions: inclusion and popularity.

The results of the study show that interpreting either a verbal stimulus or a visual stimulus metaphorically activates similar brain areas, but there are significant differences between the two in terms of neural connectivity and resource allocation patterns. A greater intra-hemispheric connectivity was observed during verbal metaphor comprehension as compared to greater inter-hemispheric connectivity during visual metaphor comprehension. Results of our novel method, called µ index, suggested a distinct information processing mechanism for metaphor in verbal and visual modalities. We found that metaphorical interpretations, especially highly creative interpretations, of visual stimuli required allocation of greater resources when compared to highly creative interpretations of verbal stimuli. Overall, these results provide a deeper insight into the multimodal nature of met...
