Therefore, different ways of delivering distance training have been proposed to promote “stay active at home.” This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of three different training programs consisting of a total of 15 workouts (three sessions per week): supervised livestreaming (LS), unsupervised following a video recording (VR), and unsupervised following a written program (WP). Changes in anthropometric and cardiovascular variables, muscle fitness, and physical activity levels were evaluated. The evaluation of muscle mass in athletes correlates with sports performance directly. Bioimpedance vector analysis is a growing method of assessing body composition in athletes because it is independent of predictive formulas containing variables such as body weight, ethnicity, age, and sex. The study aims to propose a new parameter (Levi’s Muscle Index, LMI) that evaluates muscle mass through raw bioelectrical data. A total of 664 male footballers underwent bioimpedance assessment during the regular season. LMI was correlated with body cell mass (BCM) and phase angle (PA) to establish efficacy. The footballers were 24.5 ± 5.8 years old, 180.7 ± 5.9 cm tall and weighed 76.3 ± 7.1 kg. The study evaluated the dietary habits in two groups of young athletes, practicing two different sports: soccer players and cycling. The dietary habits of 47 athletes were investigated by questionnaire. Body Mass Index, Fat Mass, Free Fat Mass, Total Body, Intracellular, Extracellular Water and Phase Angle were measured by bioimpedance. The t-Student test for unpaired data was used. Significance was set at P < 0.05. Body Mass Index was similar between the groups, while total body water and extracellular water were significantly higher in the soccer player group (soccer players: 63.8±1.96%; cyclists : 59.8 ± 8.7%; and soccer players 43.9±3.1%, cyclists 43.8 ±2.1%, respectively). PURPOSE The present study verified, using a validated questionnaire, the presence of unhealthy aspects of lifestyle and chronic degenerative conditions in a working community. METHODS: A cohort from a working community in Italy was investigated using of the INRAN (Istituto Nazionale di Ricerca per gli Alimenti e Nutrizione) questionnaire dedicated to the eating habits and Physical Activity Stages of Change. RESULTS: Most of the 93 subjects (56 females and 37 males, aged 42.0±0.7) recruited reported low levels of physical activity (70 subjects). Slightly more than 50% of the subjects undertook physical activity more than once a week, while 13% did it only once. Food intolerances were reported by 7 subjects (8%), with a high consumption of fruits, cereals and dairy products, low consumption of fish and alcohol, and meat consumption in the normal range. INTRODUCTION Lifestyle factors, as eating habits and physical activity, are associated with health and productivity of workers. The aim of this study is an assessment of lifestyle of the employees of an international company of household items. METHODS 291 (170 female, 121 male) employees underwent body composition assessment and completed two questionnaires (International Physical Activity Questionnaire and National Institute for Research of the Food and Nutrition). RESULTS The weight status of the sample is at the upper limits of normal weight. Products based on cereals are consumed about once a day, fresh meat 3.0 (0.0-12.0) per week, fresh fruit (5.0, 0.0-25.0) and vegetables (6.0, 0.0-14.0) less than one serving a day. OBJECTIVES to assess physical activity and overweight in a young population as factors associated with well-being. DESIGN cross-sectional study. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS data collection was performed in primary and secondary schools of a district located in Florence (Tuscany Region, Central Italy) by a validated questionnaire; 1,776 subjects were enrolled. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES physical activity levels and overweight. RESULTS an overweight or obese condition in 14,4% of the study population was observed. Vigorous physical activity prevailed in normal weight children, while the time spent in a sitting position was higher in overweight subjects. CONCLUSIONS physical activity levels do not follow the guidelines for youth people. Educational programmes, also at schools, are recommended in order to prevent the risk of developing chronic diseases in adulthood.

Background Regular physical activity promotes the cardiovascular fitness and the physical and psychological health. However, exercise can acutely increase the cardiovascular risk in athletes with congenital and acquired heart disease. In Italy, pre-participation cardiovascular screening to obtain eligibility is mandatory for both agonistic and non-agonistic sports, whereas in the United States it is not requested. Objective In this study, we aimed at investigating the clinical characteristics of subjects with congenital heart diseases who requested the judgment of eligibility to sport practice at the Sport Medicine Center, University of Florence. Participants Over the period 2010–2016 approximately 3000 athletes aged 6–50 year-old per year underwent eligibility visits at our Center. We found 227 patients with Congenital Heart Disease. Interventions The eligibility visits included an accurate familiar and personal history and physical examination, basal ECG interpretation, Stress Test with treadmill or cycle-ergometer and basal echocardiography. The stress echocardiography can be especially helpful in athletes with cardiovascular disease, evaluating directly the effect of physical effort on heart by ultrasound. Main Outcome Measurements We considered age and sex, the presence of cardiovascular risk factors or familiarity for cardiovascular, the type of congenital disease, the type of sport and the ECG/echocardiography findings. Results Over the period 2010–2016 we assessed 227 athletes with congenital heart diseases, most of which were Bicuspid aortic valve (n=94), Ventricular Septal Defect (n=43); Atrial Septal Defect (n=27), Pulmonary Stenosis (n=15), Patent Ductus Arteriosus (n=14). The median age was 23.4 years (M/F=176/51). Conclusions We found a remarkable amount of patients with congenital heart disease who apply to obtain the judgement of fitness to practice sport. We are evaluating the data and deepening the study to comprehensively assess the demographical and clinical characteristics of these subjects and to evaluate the predictors of eligibility to sport practice in safety.

The majority of women are less physically active during pregnancy, despite the motivation to improve their health, quality of life, and fitness. Education on the benefits of regular physical activity in pregnancy is determinant as suggested by obstetricians and gynecologists. The specific programs need to be supported by specialists in Sports Medicine. Counseling and support by nurses can also be helpful in encouraging women to maintain a sufficient level of physical activity during pregnancy or to modify their lifestyle, adapting the single models and specific physical activity programs to their needs.

Overall, 2224 subjects participated in this study [1658 males (age 26.2 ± 8.9 y) and 566 females (age 26.9 ± 6.6 y)]. Participants were categorized by their sport discipline and sorted into three different sport modalities: endurance, velocity/power, and team sports. Phase angle was directly measured using a foot-to-hand bioimpedance technology at a 50 kHz frequency during the in-season period. Reference percentiles (5th, 15th, 50th, 85th, and 95th) were calculated and stratified by sex, sport discipline and modality using an empirical Bayesian analysis. The anthropometric profile assessment is an important aspect to consider during the growth stages of youth sport practitioners due to its usefulness in controlling maturity status and overall health. We performed an anthropometric profile evaluation in a sample of youth goalkeepers (n = 42) during a training camp, dividing them into three categories based on their years from peak height velocity (YPHV). We also checked if the selection of goalkeepers was associated with the birth quartile. The results showed that most of the participants’ anthropometric parameters followed the normal trend according to the maturation stages. However, several subjects showed an overweight/obese condition and/or high waist circumference. Non-optimal values were found, mostly in the group of goalkeepers around the PHV. The aim of the study is to establish a simple and low-cost method that, associated with Body Mass Index (BMI), differentiates overweight conditions due to a prevalence of lean mass compared to an excess of fat mass during the evaluation of young athletes. 1046 young athletes (620 male, 426 female) aged between eight and 18 were enrolled. Body composition assessments were performed with anthropometry, circumferences, skinfold, and bioimpedance. Overweight was established with BMI, while overfat was established with the percentage of fat mass: 3.5% were underweight, 72.8% were normal weight, 20.1% were overweight, and 3.5% were obese according to BMI; according to the fat mass, 9.5% were under fat, 63.6% were normal fat, 16.2% were overfat, and 10.8% were obese. Overweight during youth is a large-scale public health issue. Engaging in regular physical activity generally reduces weight status. The hypothesis of the study is that organized sport plays an active role in maintaining a correct body weight during youth. The purpose of this study is to trace growth charts by height, weight, and body mass index (BMI) to be applied to the youth sports population. A retrospective study was conducted on 14,700 young athletes (10,469 males and 4231 females) aged between 6 and 18 years from surveillance carried out during the pre-participation screening of sports eligibility. The calculation of the prevalence of overweight and obesity was also performed. The new percentiles for the youth sports population show BMI values at 18 years 21.9 kg/m2 for males and 20.7 kg/m2 for females at the 50th percentile. The literature supports the role of supervised exercise intervention; however no data are available regarding the effects of unsupervised exercise programs. We investigated whether a home exercise program could reduce CV risk in RTR based on possible changes in renal and cardiometabolic parameters and myocardial performance measured by echocardiography. The new classification of hypertension has amplified an high-value of the role of the physical activity especially in the initial phase of the disease when the potential positive impact of the regular physical activity can permit to avoid the use of the pharmacological treatment.
