RICCARDO RENZI
Riccardo Renzi (1979), Architect, Ph.D.,
Assistant Professor Researcher (full time) in Architectural and Urban Design.
Architecture Department DIDA University of Florence. PhD (2007-2009). Adjunct Professor at University of Florence since 2010, studied in Florence and developed his thesis project in New York (2004-2005).
Teacher in the 4th and 5th year Architectural Design Class (in italian and in english) part of his research field focus on italian and western architecture of the XXth century and the development of language as expression of true value of architecture. He worked on Gherardo Bosio’s Archive 2007-2017 and Alfredo Lensi’s Archive since 2011-present, Ferdinando Poggi’s Archive 2017-present, Tullio Rossi and Studio San Giorgio from 2017-present. His research also focused on italian architecture after 2nd world war (published in 2013, 2017) on typologies and languages of new residential social blocks and units. Partner of ASF (Historical Florentine Studies) 2012-2018 and member of PPcP (Landscape, Cultural Heritage, Project, Design) of Dida 2015-2018 (Architecture Department of University of Florence) he tought in 2014/15 in a II Level Master and from 2014 in the Postgraduate School in Architectural and Landscape Heritage of University of Florence.
European Commission Expert from 2017, he is also member of several international commissions for architectural design competition and contests from 2015; part of editorial boards for scientific publications he collaborate with main italian magazines of architecture, with essays.
Involved in many official research of University of Florence applied on urban project, in some of them he is Coordinator.
Scientific Reference of urban and architecture design of granted research (two in 2017, three in 2018).
Scientific Reference of International Agreement (Hanyhang university south Korea, Voronesk University Russia, Tonji University China-double degree).
Author of seven architecture books, he wrote many essays and articles, attended and organized many conferences, also organize and participate in exhibitions both for his research and works. Active as architect since 2005, he was (2006-2009) project chief of an event agency and relized several set up, urban and interiors. While designing for international competition and building reneval in Italy and Europe, he has been selected as emerging architect in 2010 and 2011 by several magazines, and host for conferences focused on the role of contemporary architect.
His research field on Architectural and Urban Design also has been directed on the role of the project mainly working on two relevant aspect-themes: frame and wall, wall and light.
The role of the design and the historical city is usually relevant in its design as in the proposal for a new cultural center in Baghdad, a new cultural center in Aleppo (under the citadel), for the new museum of memory in Bamiyan and the new bauakademie of Berlin and the new center for architecture of Cordoba. Mainly focusing on the typology of Museum and exposition/cultural centers from 2009 he is now designing the new Rastriglia Pavilion in Fortezza da Basso of Florence (7500sqm) and a Museum of Lands near Florence.
His International project has been prized several time for his designs and urban projects, exposed in collective architectural expositions and events, presented in international and national conferences and several times published in international books and magazines.
Main design prized: the first prize competition for the new marketplace in S.Ambrogio in Florence (2005), the second prize for the new center of Rignano sull’Arno (2005), the second prize of InArch for an emergency home design after L’Aquila Earthquake (2009), selected for TBD of MOCCA in Toronto (2014), shortlisted for the new Museum of Knowledge in Chandigarh (India) (2015), selected for a new urban development in Hong Kong (1st in international jury) (2015), shortlisted for the new Ludwig gallery and contemporary museum building of Budapest (2014), the second prize for the new center of Novate Milanese in Milan (2009), and the first prize for the new Montesanto subway station in Naples (2013), selected and prized for a new urban development in Hamburg (Europan-Europe 2017), selected and prized for a new museum in Senegal with a commission headed by Kengo Kuma (2018), he recently win the 1st IGBEC competition in China for a new sustainable building (2019).
