This essay explores bibliographic and historiographical studies on the frescoed vaults in the cry... more This essay explores bibliographic and historiographical studies on the frescoed vaults in the crypt of Saint Adam, located in the church of Santa Maria Maggiore in Guglionesi (Campobasso province, Molise, Italy). The frescoes have never been the subject of a detailed study; in fact, they have received only sporadic mention in some volumes of Molise art and history. The most ancient bibliographic information that can be recovered is reported in the nineteenth-century La Cronistoria di Guglionesi by Canon Angelo Maria Rocchia (Guglionesi, 1830–1907) and the three glorious translations by the medieval Benedictine monk Saint Adamo Abate (990–1070). The canon mentioned the historical events that led to the establishment of the crypt and the changes in its pictorial decoration. L'artista per la letteratura e il letterato per l'arte: forme di collezionismo in Italia tra Cinq... more L'artista per la letteratura e il letterato per l'arte: forme di collezionismo in Italia tra Cinque e Ottocento Giornate di studi Genova, 9-10 maggio 2023 Call for Papers Nella sua introduzione al volume collettaneo dedicato al Collezionismo e spazi del collezionismo (Roma, Gangemi, 2013), Lauro Magnani dichiara sin da subito come la tematica in oggetto offra «un panorama ampio di ricerche e di indicazioni metodologiche» (p. 7). Molteplici sono state infatti le prospettive attraverso le quali si è guardato al collezionismo, nella diversità delle cronologie, delle geografie e degli oggetti di interesse: a titolo d'esempio, e privilegiando la bibliografia più recente, si possono ricordare gli studi di Paola Barocchi sul collezionismo mediceo di secondo Cinquecento (1993); di Pierluigi Carofano e Franco Paliaga su quello attivo a Pisa nel Seicento (2001); di Stefania Mason e Linda Borean su quello vivo a Venezia tra Sei e Settecento (2002, 2007, 2009); di Bona Castellotti sulla Milano del Settecento (1991); di Giacomo Montanari (2015) che ha affrontato il soggetto collezionismo allargando l'attenzione allo spazio, materiale e culturale, in cui il fenomeno si sviluppa. Gli studi si affiancano inoltre alle mostre, di cui varrà ricordare almeno, tra le più recenti e ancora in corso, quella allestita a Milano sui collezionisti e i mecenati dai Medici ai Rotschild. Pochi casi, questi, esemplificativi del successo di cui ha goduto e gode tutt'oggi il collezionismo nella variabilità e nella ricchezza delle sue forme; naturalmente compreso il prezioso approccio digitale, come conferma il Getty Provenance Index, database che scheda inventari di archivi, cataloghi, libri di commercianti d'arte e registri di gallerie ed aste. Le giornate di studi che si intendono programmare mirano alla considerazione di questo tema da un'angolazione ancora differente, che osservi il collezionista al pari dell'oggetto collezionato. In questa sede, si intende indagare i casi di collezionismo rinvenibili in Italia tra Cinque e Ottocento, in cui il collezionista sia un letterato o un artista, e l'oggetto da collezione sia rispettivamente un prodotto artistico per l'uno e letterario per l'altro. Ciò con l'intento di aprire ad una riflessione su questo genere di collezionismo in età moderna e con l'obiettivo finale di illuminare un'ulteriore sfaccettatura del poliedrico e proficuo dialogo tra le arti sorelle.
