Anthony Grove Hillerman (1925-2008) was an award-winning author of southwestern literature. This presentation describes the current status of the Tony Hillerman Portal (ehillerman.unm.edu), a comprehensive online resource for researchers and students who wish to learn more about the author, his life, and work. This site hosts digital reproductions of Hillerman's manuscripts, screenplays, and papers, as well as a complete catalog of his published works. The project is also developing content and features that will make Hillerman's manuscripts more accessible to Digital Humanities Researchers. The Tony Hillerman Portal is hosted by the University of New Mexico College of University Libraries and Learning Sciences.

Academics have become increasingly interdisciplinary while at the same time, the sciences, engineering and research in general are increasingly data driven. Most higher education curricula, especially in Engineering are, however, still rooted in more traditional, discipline bound curricula and make little use of the vast amounts of data available. We describe an experimental course that address this and aims to include women from non-engineering fields. The interdisciplinary course took a data driven approach to the intersection of women’s issues, water rights, and workers’ rights, taught by faculty from Civil Engineering, History, American Studies, Earth and Planetary Sciences, Geography, and Informatics. We provide an analysis of how students adapted to this novel approach and what impact it may have on female students’ career choices, especially in engineering. The course familiarized students with the use of cyber-based tools (e.g., shared databases, internet portals, monitoring...

ABSTRACT Tony Hillerman (1925-2008) was a noted author from the American Southwest. In 2005, he formally donated his entire collection papers to the Center for Southwest Research, the special collections division of the University of New Mexico Libraries, with the understanding that they be used for educational purposes. This donation led to the creation of the Tony Hillerman Portal (ehillerman.unm.edu), a website that features digital facsimiles of Hillerman’s manuscripts and provides a realistic document examination and content manipulation experience for students and researchers. The portal is built on the Drupal 7.22 Content Management System, and utilizes a variety of supporting technologies, including a streaming media server and eBook display application. Future enhancements to the site will include text and content analysis tools that will be of interest to Digital Humanities researchers, and additional photographs, videos and oral histories that help document Tony Hillerman’s life and work.

ABSTRACT Planning and Implementing Resource Discovery Tools in Academic Libraries addresses the many new resource discovery tools and products in existence, as well as their potential uses and applications. This timely publication will be invaluable to librarians and administrators seeking information on how to evaluate, choose, and ultimately implement a resource discovery product for their library’s collection.
