Accelerating demand to reduce the environmental impact of fossil fuels has been driving widespread attention to renewable fuels, such as biogas. In fact, in the last decade numerous policy guidelines and laws regarding energy, the environment and agriculture have been issued to encourage the use of animal sewage as a raw material for the production of biogas. The production of energy from biogas in a dairy farm can provide a good opportunity for sustainable rural development, augmenting the farm’s income from traditional sources and helping to reduce the overall environmental impact of the energy sector. This paper investigates the trade-off between the environmental and economic benefits of an agro-energy farm in the Umbria region of Italy that employs livestock sewage and manure, dedicated energy crops (corn and triticale silage) and olive waste. The environmental analysis was performed using the LCA methodology, while the economic investigation was carried out by reconstructing the economic balance of the agro-energetic supply chain based on the budgets of each activity performed. The LCA results show, on the one hand, the predominant weight of producing dedicated crops compared to all other processes in the supply chain and, on the other hand, a significant reduction in environmental impact compared to that caused by energy production from fossil fuels. Economic analysis revealed that the results depend significantly on what rate per kWh the government incentives guarantee to agricultural producers of renewable energy.

Kosovo Education for Sustainable Development—KESD is a local NGO which is one of the first organizations dealing with matters of education for sustainable development in Kosovo. The purpose of KESD is to help Kosovo in sustainable development in all aspects including education. KESD has played a major role not only in increasing citizens’ awareness about Education for Sustainable Development, but has also influenced the Faculty of Education at the University of Kosovo. Bearing in mind that the Faculty of Education is the only institution that prepares future teachers; it is a great way to influence in general, with ESD through professional development, future teachers about the role and importance of the education for sustainable development and the use of the teaching methodologies that support ESD. In this paper we will present current situations about ESD, our country, achievements, challenges and obstacles, KESD’s contribution in raising awareness of Kosovo citizens for ESD, in order to understand their role in developing ESD. The methodology used in this paper is a case study methodology. Through different activities which are mainly organized on a voluntary basis, KESD has been able to promote Education for Sustainable Development through various projects from preschool education toUniversity level. However one of the greatest achievements is involvement of a course which is called Education for Sustainable Development and which will be part of elective courses taught at the Faculty of Education of the University of Prishtina. It is the first time that the Faculty of Education has organized a course like this which is very important for the future generations, particularly the future teachers. Through the education of students, KESD aims to increase the role and the importance of the sustainable education to new generations in our country and beyond. Increasing the awareness means more attention will be given to teaching methodologies, and teaching contents, climatic change, economic development, and protection of the environment inside of the Framework of reference of Sustainable Development Goals—SDG’s 2015–2030 and Green Economy. Keywords:Education Sustainable development Social inclusion Curricula Green economy

Payments to the agricultural sector are designated to decrease gradually. One of the consequences of such a process will be a reduction in the number of farms and thereby in the defence of territory. The expansion of areas with hydro geological problems is a global matter. During the 2011 the damage caused by disasters around the world cost 380 BILIONS of USD. For the future, it is possible to suppose an increase in extreme events and disasters of hydro geological nature, also because of a reduction in territory protection by agriculture. The objective of this study is to propose an instrument to involve farmers in territory management, but before that disasters happen. We are looking for an ex-ante solution. In the paper, we propose a potential model, that of Territorial Management Contracts (TMC).

This work is structured in two parts. The first shows, briefly, the role of the Cooperative Extension Service in US agriculture. The second explains the main characteristics of the FINPACK software package and the potential to adapt it to European agriculture. Between these two parts is a short summary of the role of FINPACK, and, more generally, of financial management in Extension Service activities. Note: Appendix tables are not included in the machine readable file--contact the authors for copies.
