This study is conducted to evaluate the efficiency of plant treatment of the industrial and household wastewater of the Diala state company of Electrical Industries. Sampling was taken monthly for before and after-processing treatment during the period from November, 2014 to March, 2015. Some physicochemical factors were taken, such as temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, Biological oxygen demand (BOD5), chemical oxygen demand (COD), electrical conductivity, and salinity. In addition, the concentration of five heavy metals lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), iron (Fe), Copper (Cu) and Zinc (Zn) was determined. Temperature of wastewater in treatment plant showed only a significant difference between temperature before and after treatment in December, 2014. PH was not significant in all study periods before and after the treatment process. Dissolved oxygen concentration was raised after the treatment process during all the study periods, except in February2015. Biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5) and Chemical Oxygen demand (COD) concentrations were decreased after treatment. Electrical conductivity (EC) and salinity (S‰) values were decreased only in December 2104 and February 2015. All heavy metals concentrations were not affected scientifically by the treatment. The results revealed that the treatment plant was not efficient to remove the heavy metals from the industrial and household wastewater of the factory.

Polycystic syndrome (PCOS) is a considerable infertility disorder in adolescents and adult women in reproductive age. Obesity is a vigorous risk factor related to POCS. This study aims to evaluate the association of obesity and PCOS by investigating several parameters including: anthropological, biochemical (lipid profile, fasting blood sugar, glucose tolerance test, and hormone levels (LH, FSH, LH/FSH ratio, Estradiol2 and Testosterone),and genetic parameters (Fat mass and Obesity associated gene (FTO) polymorphism at rs17817449) in 63 obese and non-obese PCOS women. The biochemical tests were investigated by colorimetric methods while FTO gene polymorphism was detected by PCR–RFLP. Lipid profile, FBS, GTT, hormones (LH, LH/FSH ratio) in obese PCOS patients were significantly higher than non-obese non PCOS patients. It was found that the FTO variant TT risk genotype is a predisposing factor to obesity but not for PCOS. The study substantiated a possible familial ris...

Medulloblastomas and ependymomas are the most common malignant brain tumors in children. However genetic abnormalities associated with their development and prognosis remain unclear. Recently two gene fusions, KIAA1549–BRAF and SRGAP3–RAF1 have been detected in a number of brain tumours. We report here our development and validation of RT-RQPCR assays to detect various isoforms of these two fusion genes in formalin fixed paraffin embedded (FFPE) tissues of medulloblastoma and ependymoma. We examined these fusion genes in 44 paediatric brain tumours, 33 medulloblastomas and 11 ependymomas. We detected both fusion transcripts in 8/33, 5/33 SRGAP3 ex10/RAF1 ex10, and 3/33 KIAA1549 ex16/BRAF ex9, meduloblastomas but none in the 11 ependymomas examined. This investigation provided evidence to the value of RT-RQPCR assays for the detection of these fusion genes in large-scale studies on FFPE tissues. The study also reports the first detection of RAF fusion genes in meduloblstomas.

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH)is the most common clinical condition related to aging in males over 40 years. The current study is a Case control includes 20 patients diagnosed with BPH by specialist in Al Kindy Teaching Hospital who theirs PSA under 4ng/ ml, and 20 healthy individuals as a control group. Blood samples were collected from both patients and healthy groups and DNA was extracted and subjected into PCR techniques then the products were digested by BstUI to identify codon 72 polymorphism, samples PCR products also subjected into direct sequencing to confirm the polymorphism and detect any further variation in intron 3. polymorphism at the codon 72 in 17 of 20 patients, 8 of the patients had the common homozygous alleles, 9 had heterozygous genotype and 3 had the recessive, while this polymorphism in codon 72 was detected only in 3 of 20 in control group. Complex duplicationin intron 3composed of 16 bp were detected in 17 patients of 20, eight of them had duplication o...

The study was conducted to evaluate the inhibitory activity of methanol extract of Gardenia jasminoides leaves compared with leaf crude extracts for some organic solvents namely Methanol, Ethanol, Petroleum ether, Asetone and Chloroform on growth of some pathogenic bacteria and yeast, which included four gram positive isolates Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis, Streptococcus pyogenes and Bacillus cereus and gram negative isolates Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi, Proteus vulgaris and Pseudomonas aeruginosa and some yeasts Candida albicans and Saccharomyces boulardii, by using well diffusion method. The inhibitory activity of extracts in the tested bacterial strains and yeasts was varied according to the type of extracting solvents and are tested microorganisms. The methanol callus extract which grown on Murashige and Skoog (MS) media by using (Naphthalen acitic acid) NAA and (Benzyle adenine) BA as growth regulator highly effective as compared to the other extracts as f...

RAPD-PCR method was used for systematic study and revealing the genetic relationships in Malus by using 7 apple cultivars from some mid Iraqi regions, DNA of fresh leaves was extracted using modified protocol of CTAB, 22 prechosen random decamer primers were applied to detect Malus genotypes. four primers gave reproducible and appeared polymorphism in the RAPD profile, a total one hundred and ninety two bands were produced out of which one hundred and eight bands were polymorphic, our results arise two main clusters, Malus sylvestris has unique amplified and discriminated from other Malus taxa, thus it can be a good molecular tool for taxa identification which separated at the similarity value of 0.48, and the second cluster contained two groups, one included M. domestica, and M. domestica var ralls janet which appeared as closely related species with a stronger correlation at similarity range of 0.09, furthermore, it considered that the present study identifies reservoir of alleles that useful for breeding programs in parental crosses.

Agricultural chemicals on a large scale of use throughout the world, and there are many studies about these chemicals and its disadvantages, but most of them were limited to its impact on mammals such as rodents in determine. This study was designed to determine the impact of these chemicals on DNA damage for E. coli bacteria from Iraq. The DNA is similar in terms of structure and function in all living organisms with a different in number and sequence of the nitrogenous bases among living organisms. This study showed that snails and slugs killer material Metaldehyde are strongly bind with the DNA extracted from bacteria, and herbicides Glyphosate also showed that clearly when treated with DNA extracted from bacteria, as well as with the plasmid DNA.

Genetic polymorphism in a fragment of NADH (ND4),400bp long from the Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) of Mediterranean fruit fly ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann, 1824) using PCR-RFLP method with the restriction enzyme EcoRV in samples collected from three governorates in the middle of Iraq. The purposes of this study is to establish database, discover the introduction source as well as studying the genetic diversity for this economic pest in Iraq. The results show that there is a genetic polymorphism of the studied gene fragment among Kut governorate as compaired with the other studied samples according to digestion results of the restriction enzyme EcoRV. The Different DNA Sources. All the metal complexes were observed to cleave the DNA. A difference in the bands of complexes .The cleavage efficiency of the complexes compared with that of the control is due to their efficient DNA-binding ability and the other factors like solubility and bond length between the metal and ligand may also increase the DNA-binding ability. The ligands (Cephalexin mono hydrate (antibiotics) and Furan-2-Carboxylic acid and there newly synthesized metal complexes shows good antimicrobial activities and Binding DNA , thus, can be used as a new drug of choice in the field of pharmacy. And for formulating novel medicinal agents.
