The purpose of this concept paper is to propose and explore the implementation of the 'One Village One Product' (OVOP) concept in Kenya as a means of advancing national industrialization at the sub-location level. The OVOP initiative is a community-based approach that focuses on identifying and promoting unique and marketable products from each village or sub location, contributing to rural development and overall economic growth. This paper aims to highlight the potential benefits of adopting the OVOP concept in Kenya and outline the key strategies to successfully implement it.
Sub-locations or wards in Kenya which in this concept are assumed to be administratively equivalent to village. They are fourth level subdivision below counties and sub-counties. At the 1999 census there were 2,427 locations(mtaa) and 6,612 sublocations (mtaa mdogo) equivalent to villages. Each of 6,612 sublocations are administered by an Assistant Chief who is assisted by  a number of community elders.
In Kenya, the role of Assistant Chiefs plays a crucial part in the administration and development of rural and some urban areas. Assistant Chiefs are government officials who work under the Chief and are responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of sub-locations or wards within a sub county. Their role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, focusing on community development, governance, law enforcement, and social welfare.
Assistant Chiefs in Kenya are essential figures in fostering development and promoting the well-being of the communities they serve. Through their efforts, they contribute to the progress and growth of the nation at the grassroots level
