In order to realize this potential, a collaborative activity must sufficiently motivate peers to reflect, collect, and communicate these mental models. Peer-assessment represents a class of activities that address this challenge by design. In this work, we describe a project, currently under development, in which peer-assessment is melded with peer-instruction to create a new learning activity for an existing collaborative learning platform. We present the rationale behind the design of the activity, focusing specifically on how it draws from and synthesizes the three modes of learning supported by the Grockit platform: adaptive individual study, live collaborative small-group study, and instructor-led skill-focused lessons. Methods: The research design was based on a survey methodology and a case study. For the survey, questionnaires were administered to 30 students and 38 academicians, who were randomly selected from several Malaysian universities. For the case study, the requirements of the information system were modeled and presented to several clients to elicit their feedback. The survey data were analyzed using SPSS Findings: The result shows that students preferred the use of OOAD approach, which clearly outnumbered those who preferred the SAD approach, which stood at 33%. Interestingly, the majority (53%) of academicians preferred the use of a mixture of both approaches. Likewise, the clients shar...

To overcome this problem, a virtual threedimentional anatomical visualization tool was developed and evaluated based on virtual reality technology running on the web. The waterfall development model was used to develop the 3D tool which consisted of manipulation and exploration features to facilitate visualization of complex 3D anatomical structure. Eighteen respondents (18) were involved in the experiment to evaluate the usability of the 3D visualization tool. Results showed that the usability of the 3D visualization anatomy tool was high, suggesting its usefulness for teaching and learning of human anatomy.

The integration of CD-ROM and web application eased the use of multimedia materials in "on-line" or "off-line" learning. This method provided a more open learning opportunities to the students. They had the opportunity to learn according to their level of capability and also free to revisit any section of the learning contents to enhance their understanding. WebCT application enabled the students to communicate virtually with teachers and friends over the internet by using e-mail, bulletin board, forum and discussion group that were provided in the system. The students could initiate discussion by posting questions on the topics or subjects that they did not understand on the WebCT at any time and any place. The instructor could provide solutions, guidelines or more information to help the students better understand the topic or sub...

As learning at higher learning institution becoming a challenging experience, students are required to acquire knowledge and skill in ICT. It could help them to engage actively in learning process and becomes motivated learner. This paper investigated students’ perceptions on using ICT in learning and evaluated their score on knowledge test and task-based test. The perceptions test is looking at how students perceived the usage of ICT in their learning process and; the knowledge and task-based test are used to identify their knowledge and skills score in ICT. Later knowledge tests data are compared with perceptions data to look at any similarity and differences. Both perceptions and knowledge test were developed based on seven knowledge constructs (ethical usage, communication, basic computer operation, personal management, information ...

Co-curriculum index assessments (IPKo) was used to assess cognitive domain achievement level. Results showed all the cadets are only at the ‘good’ and ‘moderate’ level in all given cognitive items; i) Management: 73.3% ‘good’ and 26.7% ‘moderate’, mean = 3.73, ii) Safety: 66.7% ‘good’ and 33.3% ‘moderate’, mean = 3.67, iii) Regulations: 73.3% ‘good’ and 26.7% ‘moderate’, mean = 3.73, iv) Protocol: 82.9% ‘good’ and 17.1% ‘moderate’, mean = 3.83. The overall cognitive mean was at a ‘good level’ of 3.74. Results demonstrate the advantages for the university students to involved in co-curricular activities such as PALAPES in enhancing cognitive ability.

Learners may bring to the classroom a variety of misconceptions. These can be quite persistent and may seriously hinder further learning. We present an experimental study to investigate the extent of Malaysian trainee teachers’ subject misconceptions (in C Programming), and trainees' interest in understanding their misconceptions. Such recognition of misconceptions is important in order to avoid teachers later unknowingly passing their own problems on to their students. Fifteen trainees took part in two sessions, each lasting approximately one hour. They used a computer-based environment that modelled their knowledge according to their responses to multiple-choice questions. Trainees could view representations of their level of understanding of the various topics in C programming, based on this inferred model of their knowledge; and they could access text descriptions and animations of any specific misconceptions t...

The development has been model adapted from the model of development of multimedia learning by Alessi and Trolip consisting of three procedures, namely planning, design and development which is also equipped with standard components, continuous assessment and project management. This development will result in constructing the Interactive Multimedia Courseware that may be used in the teaching of Engineering Hydrology courses which will be able to improve cognitive levels consistent with Bloom's Taxonomy and Anderson. Data analyzed using descriptive qualitative and quantitative techniques using SPSS software. Assessment results base on the courseware through alpha test 4.45 (content experts) and 4.67 (expert systems). Meanwhile, a result of beta testing was 4.28 with 0.977 Cronbach Alpha reliability. In addition, the cognitive level competency test pretest (prior) and posttest (after) using courseware shows that scores increased gain in the value of g = 0853 (N-gain> 0.70). Therefore it showed that the courseware developed is effective in teaching and learning. In addition, the results of t-test with α = 0.002 (α ≤ 0.05) with the results obtained concludes that there are significant differences. In conclusion, the products developed suitable and meet the needs of teaching and learning to improve student understanding and achievement in difficult courses such as hydrological engineering can too now obtain a high lavel of achievement.
