This study sought to evaluate the tolerability, safety, and efficacy of atomoxetine hydrochloride in the management of ADHD in African-American children and adolescents by conducting a post hoc subgroup analysis of 2 multicenter, open-label studies. Atomoxetine was safe and well tolerated, with >or=3.0% of African-Americans and Caucasians discontinuing treatment because of adverse events. A significantly higher proportion of Caucasians reported >or=1 treatment-emergent adverse event, including vomiting (7.2% vs 1.2%; P=.037) and fatigue (6.1% vs 0%; P=.012). No serious safety concerns were observed. Changes from baseline in height, weight, and hemodynamic variables were modest and similar in both racial subgroups. African-Americans and Caucasians showed significant improvement from baseline to end point in the mean ADHD Rating Scale-IV-Parent Vers...

Advances in addiction research have focused on the neurobiology of this disease. We discuss potential new breakthroughs in understanding the other side of gene-environment interactions-the environmental context or "exposome" of addiction. Such research has recently been made possible by advances in geospatial technologies together with new mobile and sensor computing platforms. These advances have fostered interdisciplinary collaborations focusing on the intersection of environment and behavior in addiction research. Although issues of privacy protection for study participants remain, these advances could potentially improve our understanding of initiation of drug use and relapse and help develop innovative technology-based interventions to improve treatment and continuing care services. DTC marketing involves stakeholders from the pharmaceutical industry, medical and health- care sectors, public groups, and others. Concerns regarding DTC marketing, including its influence on prescribing practices, and drug expenditures, are the subject of continuing debate. Little is known about how mental health providers perceive the role of

It occurs in three major groups: in young women in the peripartum period, in patients with atherosclerotic disease, and in an idiopathic group. There are a number of associated conditions, but the pathogenesis remains unclear. Diagnosis can only be made at angiography. Treatments include medical therapy, coronary artery bypass grafts, and newer interventional procedures. We report on a case of spontaneous coronary artery dissection involving the left circumflex artery in a young adult male presenting with a myocardial infarction after exercise. There were no risk factors for coronary artery disease and no evidence of atherosclerosis on angiography. The dissection was treated with primary coronary artery stenting without predilation, achieving an excellent result. To our knowledge, this is the third known case of successful coronary artery stenting for this condition and the first case of primary...
