Seterusnya, menerangkan juga kaedah me...

Problem based learning (PBL) has been widely practised and extensively researched in a variety of disciplines for over past four decades. However, its evidence of effectiveness still remains inconclusive. This literature review paper debates the effectiveness of problem-based learning on learners’ academic performance. Specifically, the discussion in this paper puts the focus on the basic concept of PBL and the effectiveness of PBL based on the existing research findings. Apart from that, cognitive load theory will be discussed as it is generally believed that cognitive load induced by any learning strategy has an impact on learner’s performance. The effectiveness of PBL from the perspective of Cognitive Load Theory will be presented. In addition, this paper also puts forward some theoretical ideas on when to ultilise PBL during the process of teaching and learning, and how the implementation of PBL can be improved by integrating with other learning strategies.

Mental health issue was a serious matter that was often neglected by people. This article will describe a study of the mental health profile among the learners of Malaysia Technical University (MTU) that focus on Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM). A survey using DASS-21 inventory and self-developed questionnaire was used for this study to investigate learners' mental health level in three elements and factors contribute towards mental health. A total number of 450 students from seven faculties in UTHM was strata randomly selected as sampel for this study. The relationships between factors of mental health and the elements of mental health was identified. Collected data was analysed using percentage, mean score, standard deviation and multiple linear regression. Findings showed that majority of students possess normal level but the percentage of severe and extremely severe level was increasing. The main factor highly significantly correlate to all the mental health elements was self-evaluation. Hence, it is highly recommended that mental health issue needs great attention and remedial action from higher learning institution, non-governmental organizations, parents, students themselves and other concerned bodies.

This research was conducted to gain an understanding of the prevalence of cyberbullying among students in Malaysian higher learning institutions. Additionally, the present research also attempted to find out the common platforms where cyberbullying occurs and coping strategies used by cyber victims. A set of questionnaire was developed for the purpose of data collection. A total of 712 public and private college/university students participated in this research. The research findings revealed that 66% of the respondents reported having been cyberbullied; the prevalence rate for female was higher compared to male cyber users; Malays students yielded highest percentage of cyber victims compared to other ethnic groups. Current findings also indicated that Facebook and mobile phone social apps were the most common platforms where cyberbullying took place. The exploration of cyberbullying effects showed that most of the cyber victims became over sensitive towards their surrounding and developed emotional changes. Apart from that, the findings also indicated that the most common coping strategy was seeking assistance from friends and classmates. Pragmatic and effective steps have to be taken by higher leaning institutions in order to help students deal with problems in cyberbullying and more importantly to prevent cyberbullying from happening.

The lack of a clear understanding of the maintenance management process is one of the major sources of difficulties in the maintenance of school buildings. A clearer understanding of the maintenance management process can be achieved by constructing a process model of the existing practices using a suitable process modelling technique. The purpose of this study was to develop a process model for the management of maintenance of school buildings using the IDEF0 structured modelling technique. The modelling process is divided into three phases, (i) the information gathering phase, (ii) the model development phase and (ii) the experts’ evaluation and validation phase. In the first phase, information on existing maintenance practices was obtained through questionnaires and document analysis of policies, standing orders and maintenance reports. In the second phase, a process model was drafted through an iterative process using the IDEF0 process modelling technique. In the third phase, the draft process model was submitted to three experts on maintenance management from the Ministry of Education Malaysia for evaluation and validation. A ready to implement process model for the maintenance management of school buildings was constructed upon validation by the experts.

It is generally accepted that the undergraduate cumulative point average (UCPA) is associated with graduate performance of the same discipline. Less known, however, is how good the UCPA at predicting graduate performance in a different discipline. This paper discusses a study on the relationship between UCPA, undergraduate program of study, and graduate performance – operationalised as graduate CPA (GCPA) – in a Master in Technical and Vocational Education program (MTVE). Data were gathered on UCPA, their undergraduate program of study, gender and previous university of 612 MTVE students using their application forms and academic records. The large number of programs of study was reduced to five groups of disciplines namely, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Business and Management, and Others. Descriptive statistics and linear regression were used to analyse the data. The results showed that both undergraduate program of study and UCPA are predictors of GCPA and the extent to which UCPA contributes towards GCPA varies across programs of study.
