As one of the ex situ conservation sites, Purwodadi Botanic Garden (PBG) has Intsia bijuga as its collection with high economic value for its high quality wood. It is categorised as Near Threatened in the IUCN Red List. Its efficacy as herb is due to the presence of its various chemical compounds. The purpose of this study was to characterize the morphology of I. bijuga cultivated in PBG and to reveal its phytochemical compounds, as well as their health benefits. This research was conducted at the PBG in April–May 2020. The plant material was obtained from PBG collection. The plant morphology was characterized by direct observation in the field, while information regarding phytochemical compounds of I. bijuga along with their benefits was obtained by literature review. Kepel is a common name for Stelochocarpus burahol, a plant that spreads naturally in Indonesia. It is a member of Annonaceae with fruit the size of a hand or kepel (Javanese) hence it is called kepel. The plant commonly found in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (a territory ruled by the Sultan), and is designated as a Flora of Provincial Identity. In ancient times kepel was considered as a plant of the royal household. Besides its small flesh the fruit was economically less prospective thus not too attractive to locals. Therefore its current population is quite limited and has begun to be rarely found. Recent studies have shown that the species has potential as medicinal plants for its antioxidant, antifungal, and antiseptic properties. AbstrakSARS-CoV-2 dikenal sebagai agen penyebab COVID-19. Penyakit ini pertama kali muncul di Cina yang dalam beberapa bulan telah menyebar secara masif ke 198 negara lain termasuk Indonesia, dan menyebabkan pandemik global. Sekalipun vaksin telah ditemukan namun laju mutasi virus yang sangat cepat menjadikannya kurang efektif. Beberapa dekade terakhir, para ilmuwan telah mengidentifikasi senyawa-senyawa tumbuhan yang mempunyai potensi sebagai aktivitas anti-coronavirus. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengkaji senyawa aktif yang dapat menghambat aktivitas coronavirus dan menentukan koleksi tumbuhan Kebun Raya Purwodadi yang mengandung senyawa tersebut. Penelitian dilakukan melalui review dan kompilasi berbagai literatur terkait. Wild bananas provide important genetic materials for further banana improvement, therefore they need to be conserved and studied. This study aimed to describe morphological characteristics of plant and seed and also to study the seed germination of wild banana M. acuminata var. flava (Ridl.) Nasution. The morphological characteristics were observed descriptively by referring to the descriptor for banana. The internal and external morphology of the seeds were observed using a digital microscope. The germination testing was carried out by a completely randomized design, using fresh seeds extracted from a bunch of fruits with two ripeness levels i.e. fully-ripe (yellow peel) and under-ripe (green-yellow peel). The data resulted was then analyzed using an independent t-test. Penyakit-penyakit neurodegeneratif telah menjangkiti jutaan orang di seluruh dunia dengan angka kejadian yang semakin meningkat. Hingga saat ini belum ada pendekatan terapeutik untuk menghentikan perkembangan penyakit-penyakit neurodegeneratif tersebut. Di sisi lain, produk-produk alami, terutama yang berasal dari tumbuhan, memiliki senyawa-senyawa dengan aktivitas anti-neurodegeneratif. Kebun Raya Purwodadi (KRP), sebagai salah satu lembaga konservasi tumbuhan ex situ , diduga menyimpan kekayaan plasma nutfah yang berpotensi sebagai agen neuroproteksi. Penulisan ini bertujuan untuk menginventarisasi koleksi KRP yang berpotensi sebagai agen neuroproteksi melalui studi literatur dan penelusuran katalog KRP. Background: CoVID-19, caused by a new type of coronavirus named SARS-CoV-2, has become a pandemic. Together with SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV, CoVID-19 is a large global outbreak of coronavirus infection; however, its rate of spread is much higher. Since the vaccines and anti-SARS-CoV-2 have not been found, a faster control mechanism is much needed. Traditional herbs have shown the potential for this purpose, as has been demonstrated by the Chinese Government with a high success rate. Mangrove forest is located along the coastal area and regularly waterlogged because it is influenced by the tides, and has an important ecological function for life. Mangrove forest, especially in urban areas, is the most threatened and damaged ecosystem. Surabaya has a mangrove forest in the Mangrove Botanic Garden of Gunung Anyar (MBGGA) with an area of 32,761 m2 and has the potential for educational tourism. Scientific information concerning plant species in MBGGA is needed to support this potential. This study aimed to inventory the mangrove plants and their associated species in MBGGA and their potential as medicinal plants. The inventory was carried out by tracking method while information on medicinal potential was obtained through literature study. Tumbuhan paku mengandung senyawa metabolit sekunder yang berpotensi obat berdasarkanstudi etnobotani dan farmakologi. Bauhinia winitii Craib (Fabaceae, Caesalpinioideae) is a woody climber which is currently included in endangered species list. B. winitii seeds are orthodox seeds in which it has hard coat morphologically. Therefore, B. winitii seeds often undergo physical dormancy which can be broken through immersion in certain liquid media. This study aimed to characterize the morphology of B. winitii seeds and determine the pre-sowing treatment method to accelerate the seeds germination of B. winitii. External morphological characterization was carried out by observing the seeds quantitative and qualitative parameters. Characterization of seeds internal morphology was conducted using a digital microscope. Physical dormancy breaking was carried out by immersion in warm and cold water for 24 hours. Purwodadi Botanic Garden (KR Purwodadi) is an ex situ conservation institution for dry climate lowland plants aiming at saving and protecting biodiversity from extinction. In supporting ex situ conservation efforts, plant exploration activities in their natural habitat need to be carried out. Alas Purwo National Park has a lowland forest area with abundant plant diversity. In addition to functioning as a conservation forest, this area is also a natural and religious tourist attraction, so it is likely to undergo ecosystem damage. Therefore, this plant diversity study with the activity of plants exploration and collection was carried out for the purpose of ex situ conservation in KR Purwodadi.
