Creating healthy and sustainable environment is essential for playgrounds that contribute to new generations. Considering physical and psychological benefits of playgrounds on children; conducting the design and planning process in a sustainable perspective provides a positive impact. Today concreted cities, disappeared green texture, increased traffic load, and unplanned urbanization seems to reduce numbers and qualities of playgrounds.
Accordingly, renovating, improving and increasing of existing and future playgrounds’ environmental value have become important. In the context of sustainability, playground practices were examined, then a framework has been established by ordering prioritized and most important criterions. Location selection, security, durability, material selection, accessibility, practices for different age groups, ecologic and environmentalist approaches, innovative designs and activities that support physical and mental development; practices for energy and resource efficiency are the main components of this subject.
